Ford Mustang MachE approved to carry Roof Loads

So it looks like we can start carrying stuff (and maybe towing stuff in the near future) provided we meet the criteria. What a relief! Looking forward to reading about all y’all’s adventures!

“Now, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has also been officially approved to carry roof loads of up to 75 kilograms, or around 165 pounds, the automaker has announced. This change applies to all Mach-E models and configurations, though models equipped with the optional panoramic roof are certified to carry a bit less weight – 65 kilograms, or roughly 143 pounds.”

I can see your point, but the vagueness of the article doesn’t stipulate if it’s approved in america or europe or both. i’m still researching and hoping someone finds and shares the actual ford announcement the article references.

Based on some additional things I've seen, I think the announcement came specifically from Ford Norway (see https://ford-no.mynewsdesk.com/pres...dkjent-for-taklast-paa-opptil-75-kg-3194550); I based my understanding on articles like this (https://norway.postsen.com/business/24043/Good-news-for-thousands-of-Norwegian-owners.html), since I don't actually read or speak Norwegian.

I'm going to post a question to the Ford folks on Twitter, to see if it's true across the world. {Jonathan}

God forbid people do something that has not been "approved". "Officially" approved!

People have been putting ski/cargo boxes and bikes on roofs of super cars and posting it on YouTube. Im sure this is going to cause all kinds of issues with us normal drivers. Gotta love the legal system in the US!

Why does the thread title say “approved for towing”?
Also in the article: " models equipped with the extended range battery and either rear- or all-wheel drive can now tow up to 1,000 kilograms (2,204 pounds) "

The MME was already approved for towing in Europe, which is where this increased tow rating applies. The thread title is very misleading.

Depends on how you define approved. I view it as an engineering thing, where they've approved the car can carry roof loads and have increased towing capacity based on further testing of the car. Regardless of the legal approval of it or not, we now know that technically the car can do it.

I for one don't care if they legally say I can tow. I'm towing if the car can handle it.

The MME has been approved for towing (in Europe) since day 1. Still not sure how that warrants the thread title. But now that I’ve been baited into clicking, I guess I’ll move on. Enjoy.

The fact that the announcement uses kilograms at all indicates to me it’s a EU, UK, European Economic Area thing. Americans don’t know a kg from a Troy ounce. :p

Yeah, OP added that "approved for towing" to his post, whereas the actual article doesn't include that.

You mean, say, like if the car can handle making an emergency stop towing a 2500 lb trailer to avoid killing someone in a crosswalk on those skinny tires?

First paragraph from the story states
As Ford Authority reported back in May, the Ford Mustang Mach-E recently received a towing capacity boost in Europe, which means that models equipped with the extended range battery and either rear- or all-wheel drive can now tow up to 1,000 kilograms (2,204 pounds). Now.

Sure looks like the covered towing first before roof load ratings.

Back to the legal system in US preventing this announcement for US base cars.
