Just wanted to post that I took the plunge and bought what was needed for updating my 2021 Job 2 GTPE that was recommended by Todd and Andy (DevSecOps, scoopman), a Mongoose Plus interface cable and 60 amp power supply. I have a Windows 10 partition on my MacBook Pro and installed FDRS. Bought a 2 day license and updated all 13 modules in the update list. It took about 5 hours but could have been shorter as I was not always at the car. The GWM module required a USB stick for updating and that went well also. All DTC's were cleared and it was much simpler than I thought it would be.

Thanks to Andy's video and a few pointers from Todd it went very smooth. No failed updates, no crashes, everything just worked as it should. In Sync under Software Updates it shows I have PowerUp 2.8.2. I took the car out for a short 5 mile drive this evening and all seems to be well.

Before and after FDRS update screen.

Exactly! I have done the same in the last few months after obtaining a 2-day license twice. Makes me question every time why can’t the dealers do the same after whatever training they get but I have given up on that thought. I have told Ford reps here multiple times that their dealers simply are refusing to apply the updates, they ask for my VIN and then the standard response please contact your dealer.

I had to spend extra money and commit time while it’s under warranty but it takes me less time to do it on my own, I don’t have to leave the car somewhere and eventually I know what was done. Much more peace of mind this way for me.

And the new "login experience" page that kinda looks like the blank white Ford account page with a login dialog and that's it.

Makes me wonder what other changes this separation of dealer vs. non-dealer type logins might bring. As in are things going to get even more limited for non-dealer accounts.

Instead of teaching dealers how to clear self installed software recalls, they’ve just decided to remove the capability from non-dealer users!

Can you elaborate on that?

I don’t think anything is known yet. But this is certainly scary and would push a lot of DIY people away if they remove our ability to do/check what their dealers refuse to.

I’m sure this just has to do with app security. All it is is a different screen for validating a password. If all they wanted to do was differentiate capabilities this could have been done without a different login page as we already have to specify non-dealer/motorcraft.

I got my cable today. Going to update my car tomorrow.

Does anyone see any modules that are problematic? Should I just start at the top and work my way down?

I am hopeful that my PAAK slowness is improved with the RFA update.

I would start with the PCM update as that update will include a number of other modules on your list so that they are done together. The FDRS software will step you through the updates.

Make sure your wipers are turned completely off and not in rain sensing mode when you do the DSM. And during programming you will get alllllll sorts of nonsense messages about 911 Assist being broken and you need to call for service, and a lot of other ridiculous stuff (haven't seen Eject! Eject! Eject! yet but I'm sure I just missed it as it went by).

So to limit the amount of drawdown on your battery (even with the powersupply on) make sure you turn your HVAC off before you start programming...and remember, everytime it tells you to turn "Key On, Engine Off" your headlights are going to come on to automatic mode, so reach down and shut them back off to save power, each time. The PCM, BECM, SOBDM, SOBDMB, and SOBDMC will take you about 60-70 minutes continuously cause it does them one after the other. You can take a break by just not selecting the "Ok" button until you're ready. Keep an eye on your voltage in the lower right corner of the FDRS screen. Powersupply should be set to 13.9 (that's the highest my PL6100 goes to). You can probably have all those modules done in about an hour and a half.

Oh, and if you do select one of the modules in the recall list other than the PCM first it doesn't matter...FDRS is gonna do them in sequence starting with the PCM first whether you like it or not ? so whichever one you pick it's going right for the PCM.

Post back if you have questions. All the best and have fun!

Mike

I upgraded to the new FDRS Version 32.5.7 and can not log into my account. It goes to the new login screen and I get an Error 500 (Internal Server Error) after entering my username and password.

Has anyone been able to log in using the new method?

I know there were issues with FDRS and PTS login redirects over the past few days. Hopefully that's all this is
