My wife watches these YouTube videos of villagers cooking in these remote areas in Asia and finds them very interesting and relaxing. Me, I'm watching videos of car assembly plants. Interesting dichotomy.

XC-40 reservation conversion to orders begins on the 19th, one year and three days since reveal and reservations opened.

Volvo opened up order conversion for the XC-40. Starts at $55,000. There aren't many options, only one interior. Adding premium sound, adaptive cruise control, heat pump would bring it to $58,800. With pricing moves of Ford and Tesla and where ID.4 landed, I'm a bit surprised that Volvo stuck to this price. It's been my favorite from the start, but I guess I have to finally cross it off my list

In own and love my Volvo suv's, but the range on this one stinks and isn't getting even a second look. As far as I'm concerned, any new EV put on the market from this point on should be getting EPA close to min very high 200's, if not 300 to be competitive, not only with Tesla (and mach e of course), but what is coming in the next 1-2 years from all sources.

Yep. That relegates it to pretty much an around-home only vehicle. 208 miles of range in a 10-80% SOC window is 145. Subtract probably 20% for high speed (it's a truer SUV shape so likely more high speed drag) is 116 realistic between charging legs. Can't imagine too many people driving that more than a few hundred miles from home (where you can start with 100% and get a bit more). With some charger spacing, might not even be able to make it.

Having said that, there are quite a few 2-car households that can live with one being an around-home car. But that range is more geared toward places like, well, Sweden. Where water greatly limits long drive distance for most people. Not so much Texas and California and Pennsylvania.

The XC-40 recharge was on my shortlist of BEV's to consider. Too late to the game, too low on range, too little pizza in styling, and too expensive.

Maybe they needed more pepperoni? ;)

There's just no value proposition for the XC40 Recharge. I don't see how they're going to sell any of these in North America.
