Next question: has anyone experienced this failure on the east coast under less extreme conditions? For example, driving on I-95? Or does this only happen when driving in areas with extreme, rapid elevation changes?
@BadgerGreg's car failed in SE Michigan. California can be blamed for many things, but causation of contactor failure is not one of them.

Glad you're home safe.

And I truly say this in good natured jest, but you're the one who tore into me here about how HVBJB failures never happen when driving and you didn't mind being stranded at home or work and I was scaring people with hyperbole for suggesting they could be stranded far from home on the side of the road. So no hard feelings, but how's that crow tasting? :p
To be fair, my reference was to loss of motive power, which I didn't have. The SSN message I got was due to shorting, which I assume was in the contractor. I still haven't seen anyone with HVBJB failure lose motive power.

Correct - the first happened in colder (February) weather, and the second failure during milder (April) weather. Significantly different conditions, although I'd say the February conditions were a bit more extreme.

"The town's Spanish name Los Baños means "the baths";it is named after a spring that feeds natural wetlands in the western San Joaquín Valley."
Yeah, but doesn't "The Bathrooms" do better from a marketing/tourism perspective?

You must not be a Californian ?

There's nothing in Los Banos that would be worth visiting. I don't think tourism is on their radar.

I would sure like to see a table of statistics around these junction box failures. Things like, # of failures per model, geographic region, etc, before and after the patch.

I wasn't originally worried about this situation but now I am. I think Ford should replace every faulty junction box. This sucks for Ford. I've been back to my dealer so many times for both of my cars these recalls must be killing them. Pulling the battery pack to replace the junction box is not a trivial job.

I suspect you ignored me a while back and won't see this, but I'm sorry this happened to you, and I'm glad you're ultimately safe. This shouldn't happen to anyone, and it seems like multiple things conspired to make it even worse, including Ford's roadside assistance failure. That's really not excusable.

Your well-documented experience reinforces what we already knew, or at least people strongly suspected, which is that the software fix is not enough. It seems more and more like we will all get new HVBJB hardware, but we'll have to see how that plays out.

I was disappointed with your previous comments directed towards me, but I don't hold grudges. Thanks for taking the time to read my saga and your thoughtful reply.

I really don’t like the feeling that I’m driving a time bomb. My wife takes this car to work a lot, and I commute to Boston on the Mass Pike twice a week. The last thing I want is to be the idiot who ruins the morning commute for all of Metro West.
I was once involved in an accident that caused enough of a rush hour backup that I heard it mentioned on the local traffic report and was like, "hey, that's me!"

it was a "best possible take on a bad situation" thing. ?

@DevSecOps Ultimately, this could have been worse, but I'm still frustrated for you. This experience sucks, and I agree, at least the GTs are all going to require the JB swap, because the recall fix is, indeed, crap. (Sounds like you just had the software fix).
We are early adopters all in all, and I'm glad that you have all of this truly valuable data to go along with the experience... Hoping that dealership doesn't stagnate with your car. Keep on top of them. I'm worried that small dealership will hold it hostage for too long while they give up on trying to do anything constructive with it.

This car is a curse!!!
As someone who recently had SSN, and STILL have no resolution. I concur. Roadside took 4 hours to get me towed. The guy who towed me told me he knew about my need for a tow many hours before roadside eventually "approved" him. Like seriously WTF. And then when I finally got to the dealer (late at night/early morning), roadside had no idea who towed me, or that my car had been towed, or where my car even was. I was getting lots of calls from many people who had no idea wtf was going on. Then to make matters worse, they were texting me non stop telling me to rate the service. All of this after a long week and having to pay out of pocket for a very expensive hotel, so I could talk to the dealer later in the morning. Last thing I wanted was to be dealing with incompetence from roadside after this fiasco, when I just wanted to go to f*cking sleep.
I had to find my own way home, because the dealership felt no obligation or loyalty to try to get me back home. And they eventually managed to "unbrick" the car and apply updates and told me to come get it. Somehow, a birdie from this forum alerted corporate who did a deeper dive and noticed the dealer didn't know WTF they were talking about. Ford needs to have a stern conversation with this dealers about engaging corporate to review how these issues are being handled. Dealers half assing stuff, and guessing on what to do would have lead to a bad outcome. Especially since the car has thrown faults since sitting at the dealer. I wouldn't have been happy coming to get my "fixed" car and finding out it was failing on my way back home. Also, the dealer claimed the issue was "fixed" without doing a reproducer and trying to fast charge. So in general, I am not happy with this process. I want answers as to why this crap is happening to early adopters paying as much as we are to be guinea pigs for these expensive cars.

DevSecOps, thank you for sharing. Reading your saga turns my stomach. I wander with all you know now about your MMME GTPE if you still plan to keep it or you'll be looking to unload it. I love my GT but your story got me thinking. I too got the update at the dealer, but that may just be a false sense of comfort.

Todd has helped literally hundreds of people on this forum. If he blocked you, you should look in the mirror for why.
