1. It sounds like a cat being inhaled by a Dyson vacuum.

2. Not sure how they are doing this when Tesla's boombox is only allowed to operate when stationary.

I guess someone over at Dodge was watching "The Dilemma" for inspiration.
I was listening to a podcast and someone who claimed to know said that the focus groups these car companies are doing are asking for EVs to sound and shift like ICE vehicles. Hence, vehicles like this Dodge. I think there are Henry Ford and Steve Jobs quotes which would be appropriate.

I happened to stumble across a YouTube video of a dodge introduction of their new electric challenger. Apparently, their market differentiator is going to be that they’ve developed a manual transmission for the car, and they’ve developed a proprietary system for it to make very loud “electric motor/combustion motor revving” sounds. You’d have to hear it. It doesn’t sound precisely like an internal combustion engine, but it definitely sounds like someone was trying to synthesize the sound of an internal combustion engine - LOUDLY! If ford offered that kind of sound effect for the Mustang Mach E, would you use it? I sure wouldn’t. It was obnoxious.

Fake loud revving noises, I guess that's the only way they thought it would sell to the ICE crowd...

Apparently they put a speaker in a can to give it more of an echo.

Link so you don't have to go find it:
I absolutely HATE loud cars. “look at me, look at me, I’m loud” ? Very annoying.

One of the reasons for going EV was the sound, or lack of. The only thing I like to hear is my music playing. Now if I could only muffle the speaker connected to the passenger seat it would be perfect ?

Well I’ll play a little bit of devil’s advocate; perhaps not what Dodge has cooked up in this particular vehicle but I do occasionally miss the audio accompaniment while accelerating. If only we could upload our own audio and deploy it strategically…

When I posted about this concept car, I hadn't actually heard the sound yet. When I subsequently heard it, I was like, WTF?!? I'm very firmly on Team Quiet. I get the need for sound to alert pedestrians and cyclists, but that Dodge crap is just plain stupid, IMHO.

All that said, I still think the car looks kinda bad-ass.
I agree, looks good. I tried to test drive a challenger. I couldn’t see over the hood. ?

First time out in the rain in my Focus Electric and I was surprised that I could actually hear the rain on the roof (in a very calming way).

Since then I love the silence and even drive around with the radio off--no sound at all. Been the same way for all 3 EVs and 1 PHEV.

I find generating noise pollution when not a requirement for production a bit disgusting. The Harley live wire did the same. The lack of noise and vibration is what makes this vehicle enjoyable for trips. Based on the number of people that spend a good amount of cash for a noisy muffler maybe it is for some but disappointing for those that have to listen to it. If it doesn't make you go faster or you can do it without the noise who needs the noise. I would not buy the dodge because of that. Tapping into a different crowd I guess. Can it be turned off? At least the ford gimmick only bugs you.

This weeks question: What's in there a 302?
Ans: No it is battery electric.
Response: Oh I thought it was a muscle car ?

It is pretty quick off the line.
Ya I hear they are fast.

Personally, I even have the sounds inside the car off. I love my silent car. But I realize for some this may be a thing. There is a very interesting discussion about this in this week's Wheel Bearings Podcast. Something to understand as well is that most of the "ICE Muscle Car Sound" is also "fake" now to an extent. Tuned to sound that way as they could also make those cars nearly silent.

I want Ford to partner with Skywalker Sound to put Scifi sounds inside the car, with adjustable volume. We need more options than just the one propulsion sound.
Ok fellow nerds- here is your money making idea:

Make an app that uses the accelerometer in our phones to make various propulsion sounds we can then play through the car speakers via Bluetooth.

I expect 10% idea fee. ?

Edit- apparently my idea is from 2011 lol-

For fun, I connected my phone to the exterior "backup beeper" speaker and played music through it. I thought I should arrive playing my theme song. It was hilarious, but my wife didn't appreciate it at all. ?
