Yet another reason to hate the dealer model. Despite the fact that my last two cars were purchased from the Ford dealer about 5 minutes away from me (NW suburbs of Chicago), they won't perform the software update because I didn't buy my MME from them -- which of course I would have done if they had one. "We advise that you contact the dealer you bought it from." They're an hour away. So unbelievably short sighted. Because of that, I can guarantee you I'm never going to purchase another car from them. And all of this would be unnecessary if Ford had their s**t together and could deliver a software update OTA in a reasonable amount of time.

Call the Ford customer service number and tell them your dealer is refusing to perform a Federally mandated safety recall. Tell Ford you want a specialist to contact this dealer and facilitate making the appointment.

Ford's dealers must perform this recall under law, it's not their choice to decide.

If you have any additional problem with this dealer you should record them refusing to perform the safety recall, and file a complaint with NHTSA along with the recording.

This behavior is illegal and unacceptable and Ford should be held to account for its crappy standards in its dealer network.

Your talking to the wrong people. You need to be telling this to the GM of the dealer that refused to service your Mach-e.

I was able to make an appointment at Bredemann Ford in Glenview, IL (15 minutes away). They also verified that they would be able to perform any future, non-recall related service on the car if needed. Golf Mill Ford is dead to me.

There are plenty of good dealers out there, but there are some that are their own worst enemy.

The recall is just a software update and easy money for the dealer. I don't understand why they wouldn't take such an easy job.
Honestly even if Ford managed to convince the dealer to do it, I wouldn't want my car serviced by them.

You should still report this behavior about the dealer that refused recall service to Ford Corporate. They need to know. ??

Refusing to do a safety recall is serious business and should be reported to Ford. I’d also leave them a bad Google review saying they refused a safety recall.

What if you had just moved to the area and your selling dealer was on the other side of the country? What a terrible dealership.

I initiated a chat on the Ford website and had the same experience I've seen in other threads. The person on the other end claimed that performance of the recall update (or any service work) was at the discretion of the dealer. Amazing! This whole experience has really soured me on Ford. I can't believe it hasn't just come over the air by now. I can't believe my local dealer won't take the 30 minutes it takes to plug in the car for a software update because I didn't buy it from them. I can't believe they aren't actually fixing the underlying problem (replacing the faulty part) and instead using a software update that makes it slightly less catastrophic. This is my fourth Ford and it might be the last.

Here's a potential reason for refusing to do the recall:

I just took my GTPE in for the recall. I was told by my Service Advisor at the dealership, when I asked how long the update would take, that "We can't really say...every Mach-E that we've done the recall software update to has required a uniquely different procedure...usually we have to call Ford to get help, because different modules send out different error codes every time we do the update". I took my GTPE in for the recall on a Monday morning, and I'm picking it up today (the following Friday). I suspect that Ford isn't paying the dealerships enough to do these recalls, given how many days it takes to repair the wonky software.

Here's an update: when I picked the car up, the Tech told me that the recall software took TWO days to load...with multiple, different error codes, on different modules, each time he did the update. Spent a lot of time on the phone with Ford. I suspect that a lot of the software was programmed by coders who weren't "the best and the brightest".

Most likely because they have one or no EV technician and 10 Mach Es in the line for recall work and other issues, they rather help their clients than those who did not purchase the car from them.

Ford sold a faulty car and did not invest enough in the repair infrastructure that's what it looks like.
