I was out driving today and made a quick stop. When I got back in and tried to turn the car on I got the dreaded “stop safely now” and couldn’t put it in far. Had to have it towed.

So for those who have suffered before me how long does the repair tend to take? Dealer’s closed today so I was hoping to learn a bit more about what I was in for.

(I had the software recall fix installed already, so much for that.)

My first failure = 6 weeks.

My second failure = 1 week and counting. The dealer hasn't even ordered parts yet.

Most of the hold up is probably going to be because of your dealer. It seems like every dealer in my region has a back-log of at least a weeks worth of work on top of the fact that most dealers only have one or two EV techs

Good luck. It's a grind.

Lovely. I knew it would take a while but I was hoping it wouldn’t be that long.

It takes 2 days for the service once parts arrive and tech is available.

Well that’s not too bad. So it’s all in how fast they can get the parts I guess.

I've heard lately that it's getting harder to get. I don't know if that's actually true. As @EELinneman said he's in CO and his dealer is saying weeks, yet another member in CO got one in a single day just last week.

I'm not sure if it's dealers lying, dealers not prioritizing the part through Ford or higher demand. Maybe it's also just for a certain trim. I'll ask and get back to you.

I received a response and it's a bit cryptic, which is normal, so here's my take based on what I was told.

First, there's no "national part shortage" for the HVBJB.

When you go to your local dealership and they need to order a part, they do so from their local/regional parts warehouse. It's the same people they call every time. There are some of these warehouses that don't have the HVBJB in stock. It would appear that the warehouse then returns the "restock" time frame, which is when they expect to get more from the supplier. This restock time frame is what the dealer then passes on to the vehicle owner.

It sounds like this is a normal procedure, waiting for the restock supply. Ford however is moving inventory between warehouses for the HVBJB and even shipping direct to dealers from non-regional warehouses. They are doing this because of the urgency to get cars repaired and back on the road.

My guess, and here's where I'm going off my own assumptions, is that if you don't get Ford involved the local warehouse might just wait for the restock. If you apply pressure at the dealership and get Ford involved they should bypass the normal restock wait period and request a direct ship or via warehouse transfer. In my region, I was last told that they have hundreds in stock and my dealership got my HVBJB replacement next day.

There could also be the other factor, what I experienced, which is that the dealer doesn't have a slot for a 7 hour repair for a couple weeks. It might just be that they are passing the buck instead of being forthright about their labor shortages.

Hope that helps answer the question.

I’m going on 5 weeks. But, the dealer has been great and forthcoming that it is a tech issue on their end, not part shortage. The first week or so was waiting on part. Second week was trying to figure out how to de-energize battery. Third week sent only tech to MME school probably to figure out how to fix my car.

I’m surprised the OP had the SSN message with no other warning after the software update (yeah, so much for that). I drove my GTPE for a week in limp mode at half power before trading it for a Lightening loaner because i didn’t want an ICE and I felt like I was on borrowed time before SSN message. Been driving the F150 ever since, but want my GT back since I’m running out of “summer” for the tires.

So sure enough it’s the HVBJB and it’s getting replaced.

Will the new part be a permanent fix (no longer has the flaw) or is it the same one as my original part and thus could fail again in the future?

Does anyone know?

I'm in Colorado and have been waiting since Aug 19th and the dealer still cant tell me when the part will arrive.
What dealer? Have you opened a case with Ford? I did and they closed it 5 minutes later, but have opened a new one. Have you offered to take up the Colorado Lemon law yet? It's very specific about the 30 day limit.
