For my 2022 Mach E GT, if I select the camera while slowly going forward, and then put the car into reverse followed by putting into drive, the camera is no longer functional. I have to again select it for going forward in drive. This is quite annoying. As a comparison, my 2019 Acura MDX Hybrid camera remains functional even if I put the MDX into reverse followed by putting it back into drive. This seems like a no-brainer, and I would suggest Ford make a change so that the Mach E camera operates in the same manner.

I think there is a setting that will increase the time that the camera stays on after switching out of reverse. Is that what you're talking about?

Correct. Settings, Driverr Assistance, Rear View Camera Delay. 2022 manual, page 212.

No, it’s not the time the rear view stays on. It’s the situation that the front view does not come back on after going into reverse and then going back into drive.

I think what the OP would like is for the camera view to switch back to the previous view after backing up. If 360 view was up on the screen then it should come back after backing up (provided the speed is below 5 mph or so...)

You find it annoying it doesn’t do that, I would find it annoying if it did.

If it did what you asked, you would have to manually turn it off each time.

Right now it’s manually on, auto off. You would want it manually on, manually off?

I think Ford assumed that when you back up, then go into drive, you should be able to see what’s in front of you, without the camera.

If you get too close to something, it will automatically turn back on though.

I think I see what the OP is asking as I have thought about this myself.

There have been some occasions where I was pulling into a parking spot and activated the 360 camera view to see if I positioned the vehicle how I wanted. Tall curb or sidewalk and didn't want the nose of the car too close. Or not crossing a white painted line etc.

Not quite where I would like so I select reverse to have another stab at it. It would be nice if the 360 camera view would return after selecting D (or remain.....depending on what setting you have).

Again, only reverting to what the previous setting on screen was when R was selected. Not coming on all the time or anything like that. The camera view goes away once the speed increases anyway so it shouldn't be annoying for those few times the 360 view is active.

I find the rear camera top view adequate for parking. Maybe because this is the first car I’ve owned with 360 and haven’t gotten accustomed to it.

If it's manually turned on, it should not turn off because the shifter is changed. It should stay on until turned off. Alternatively, turn off automatically if a speed threshold is reached. If someone manually turned it on, it's likely for parking assistance and people often move forwards and backwards if trying to fit in to a tricky spot.

Part of the problem might be the automatically turning on when too close to an object is a very rare occurrence. Improving it's detection of when it should automatically turn on when going forward might be a solution as well.

Same. Just the 360 view is enough. It just goes away when shifting out of reverse so there had been a few times where I had to re-enable the 360 view to nose in a bit better.

I understand what you’re saying, but still would find this way worse than what it does now.

I already don’t like that when I’m reverse and the camera is on…….. nothing else on the screen works. (A/C etc)

If it did the same at low speeds moving forward, would just be more frustrating.

But I also have never parallel parked the car. That’s the one time it could be nice if you’re not auto parking.

wish list- physical button for 360 camera. Would fix the issue.

I'm 100% with you on this. If you select the camera view at very slow speed, and then reverse at a very slow speed, and then move forward again at a very slow speed......you're most often parking. Why not automatically restore the camera view that you selected in the first place? It'll automatically disengage if/when you accelerate past that very slow speed anyway.

Why not? Because you may also be leaving a parking space in that same scenario. Then while driving slow in the parking lot you are stuck with the camera and have no functionality of the rest of your screen.

And again, if you backed up, you shouldn’t need the camera to see what’s in front of you. If you do, hit the button. Or, just creep forward and the camera automatically activates when you’re close to something.

My wife has a Toyota RAV4 and the 360 camera comes on whenever she is driving slow enough (forward or backwards). Most cases this is when approaching a parking space, coming near an obstacle, etc...
We find this very helpful. For the people who does not like this, a selection in the settings to activate/deactivate this function could be handy.
btw, the fact that the other functions does not work because the camera is on, this is another inconvenience of the Mach-E

I guess we have different driving habits. When leaving a parking spot, I can't ever think of a situation where I'd manually turn on the camera while going forward, then reverse, then forward again. Turning on the camera in this "leaving parking spot" scenario would be unusual for me. But if I did, I'm sure most of the time I'd be fine letting it auto-disengage at 5mph.

The "entering parking spot and trying to ensure I'm centered and aligned" is much more common for me, which is where I'd appreciate if the camera stays engaged after reversing.
