Hey gang. I am beyond frustrated with what I feel is a nonsensical conversation with the tech at Costco.
I purchased a set of Cross Climate 2 tires and he indicated that they cannot for "safety reasons" install these tires since they are V rated tires. He said I could drop to a "W" rated tire but since my car originally came w Y rated tires, I can only drop down one level.
I called Michelin and it seems there is some truth to the "dropping down 1 level" BUT... The GT std edition ships with the same size tire as the PE and those are in fact -V rated tires....
So -Is there honestly that much difference between the PE version and the std to make installing a v-rated tire (for cold weather months) dangerous? I'm not planning to take my car to the track in the dead of winter?!?!?
I guess it was my mistake to indicate it was a PE model. The dilemma is that they literally have no other in-stock tire but Firehawk AS V2 (W rated) that show compatible with the PE. Since this is a new tire just released in September, there are zero reviews though the specs seem good.
I was hoping to stick w Costco as the installer so I could leverage a long road hazard warranty and lots of warehouses if I do run into a road hazard issue while "on the road" pun intended.
Anyone have experience on this topic?
