1. At least 20% of the time I have to wait...
2. 2022 Premium AWD
3. iPhone X
4. I quite often have to push the open button multiple times and/or pull my phone out and open Fordpass (always in background) and then push the unlock button on Fordpass to actually get the door to open. Once inside, I have yet to have a "no key detected" message. It's just getting into the car that is the issue. But, I just saw that "Background App Refresh" was off, so I'll try again...

I agree with that. Even more, and I just realized today walking toward the car and wanting to unlock the doors - it's so much easier to unlock the doors from the fob than opening the app and hold the "unlock" icon for a few seconds, and it doesn't always work either. So, I guess, my answer should be "for everything I use PAAK it works as well as the fob". And when I need to open frunk, I prefer to touch the code on the B-pilar than rich for the phone.
Agree. It is really a preference thing IMO. My brother uses PaaK and it isn't perfect but he only drives to work and them home afterwards so an extra few moments twice a day is worth it to him.

My brother-in-law is a realtor and he uses the fob because he gets embarrassed when he is driving clients around and the car doors don't open. And then I use the fob for the reasons mentioned earlier.

I think there are good use cases for each method. Same for 1PD or 2PD.

Please pick the one option that best describes your PAAK experience. Then, please respond below with:

1. Your poll choice.
2. Your MME and year.
3. Your phone.
4. Whether you are treating your phone like a fob or if you are doing anything with it (taking it out of your pocket, unlocking it, etc.) to get your result.

If you are bringing your phone out of your pocket and opening up FordPass, etc. to get to your “PAAK works great” result… that’s doesn’t mean PAAK works as well as the fob.

This is going to assume that you are doing what you are supposed to do for PAAK to work optimally - keeping FordPass running in background and you have Background App Refresh enabled.

I have to have the ford app open and active on the phone for the car to ever see it. Sometimes it doesn't, even if I unlock and start the car from the ford app. It is really amazing how bad it can be. Even with Android auto connected and the phone with the ford app open and on the charging pad, I still will get key not detected message.

works ok but not as good as Fob

2021 MMW AWD XB job 2
iPhone 12 software 16.1

for the most part PAAK works. But there are times I have to hit the outside button several times for door to open. 10% of the time it will not recognize PAAK and I have to use password or close Fordpass and restart it And maybe it will work. Always works with the password.

I also keep FOB in the car hidden in a faraday bag. Belts and suspenders

problems, of course are valet. In the community I will be spending part of the winter the car is valet a lot so will almost always need a FOB while using their services. Will be a hassle to go get the FOB out each time From hidden spot.

my son and I were swapping cars the other day, had to pull out the fob. Same with my wife. carrying FOB would be easier.

I have been using PAAk for the last month no major problems but FOB is really easier, never a problem, just wish it were thinner.

1. 3 seconds for me. Though it's a lot better than before/2021
2. 2022 Premium ER (previous 2021 Select)
3. Galaxy S20
4. Still seems faster to have my phone out and app loaded so that's what I usually do. Plus it rains alot in Portland.

Been unable to start the car twice (no passcode prompt). Once required a phone reset and the second time I used my wife's phone.

1. I have PaaK set up, but often have a fob with me (in a purse or bag — really a habit, it is also on a key ring with my work keys). I used PaaK today and had no key detected message for about 20 seconds. Other times it’s been ok. It makes me a little nervous when that happens. It’s probably just best to keep my key in my purse.
2. 2022 MME GT
3. iPhone 13 - iOS 16.0.2
4. Generally it is in my pocket or in my hand, but I am not typically using the FordPass app when I approach my car.

Uh, just out of curiosity, what’s the point of this poll? Just out of curiosity?
Seriously.

1. Works just as good as the FOB
2. 2022 MME GT-PE
3. iPhone 12 Pro
4. Leave it in my pocket

Nothing fancy here - just works. Now the Car Play - that's a different issue, when my wife is with me...

Works at least, possibly better than fob. (had fob only today, had to hold it closer for the fist time)

Wait. 0 keys? Carry a mobile device and use PAAK? I thought PAAK was an abbreviation for Phone As A Key.
FOB works every time all of the time. Never a problem. Only times it comes out of pocket is to hand to car parker or to put in drawer at home. Used them since their inception. Do not understand why they are taboo. Must be an old school - not cool thing.
If FordPass were reliable.....

(Yes, I realize that a Fob or PAAK are not keys, but the current vernacular labels these electronic devices as "keys")

The purpose is to find out what percentage of forum users are having problems with PAAK, and to try to identify any common issues tied to success or failure. In other words, exactly the kind of troubleshooting for which this message board can assist.

You do you, “Tampa Mike.”

Today is the day I admit I was wrong to be so confident regarding PaaK. I have posted my fail proof system for getting PaaK to work 100% of the time. And it did, until today.

Today I tried all my tricks, including one @DevSecOps shared with me, and nope. Nothing worked. And even worse, I can't remember the emergency start code. I have not used it for 10 months and didn't write it down. I tried everything I could think of until it locked me out.

Fortunately I am out of town so I have my laptop bag with me, and the fob wrapped in foil. I unwrapped it and started the car.

After this experience I might actually be ready to go full fob. Maybe. I am definitely firmly on the fence.
