That’s a great idea. I wonder what they charge per hour? Could be like a 1 hour tow, $150.
I also saw a photo of a State Farm or AAA or something like that vehicle that could provide roadside assistance.

Thanks you Rick for your talk about teleporting and flying cars while at the same time....................calling ME crazy !
If you go on QVC you can already find chargers the size of 3 cigarette packages to start cars
Have you noticed the efficiency when you drive your car? How many miles can you drive when you are getting 3 kW per mile, and you have a 3 kWh battery? Have you done a Bing search to see how big a 3 kWh battery is? What about one with 7 times the capacity so you can go 21 miles?

You CAN use a portable battery to get a couple extra miles of range (see this YouTuber who routinely tests EVs until they die and uses this to make it to the next charger ). They're not cheap but if all you're looking for is a couple miles of extra range after "charging" with the backup for an hour, this should do the job.

Im wondering if someone could make a old cigar box size battery that could hold a charge and be plugged into the mach e charge port in case of emergency to provide 20ish miles of range to the mach e internal batteries to prevent ever being stranded
no

20 miles of 'emergency range' would require about 7 kWhr of Energy (which will be about the size of 7 'regular' auto batteries), and an inverter to put it back thru the charge port with a regular 120v-ac mobile charger.

Much better to learn how to use your route planner.... and carry a 50' extension cord and your mobile charger. You can beg for Juice at any outside outlet. Or, look for the nearest Campground with 'hookups'

don't feel bad @agdad , lots of people don't understand the difference between Power and Energy.

ICE cars can be started with small batteries that can put out enough current to start an ICE engine... for maybe 30 seconds.

BEVs like our MME need LOTS of Energy to do the Work to move almost 5000# down the road. Lots of Energy requires a fair amount of physical space. With existing tech, battery energy density is limited; measured in Kwhr/m3.... or slightly better than 1 kWhr per 'regular' auto battery size space.

take a look at the volume under your car required to hold 70 kwhr (SR) or 90 kwhr (ER)....

thats just dumb..... why would you abuse batteries on purpose by driving until it stops ?!

like I said... pack an extension cord and your Mobile Charger..... OR,

tow strap and hooks and get somebody to flat tow you while you vehicle is 'on' and in 1-p regen mode.... help the tow vehicle get up to about 40mph, let off on the accelerator and you'll be regenning up to 100kW. It'll be hard on the tow vehicle, but it will charge you up pretty fast! This would be similar to driving down a LONG STEEP mountain.

Lol, nobody said it was smart, certainly not something I would recommend, but if someone really wants to have the peace of mind of a couple extra miles of range, there it is.

extension cord, or tow strap and bridle are a lot cheaper than a 'powerbox', and fit under the rear cargo hatch rather than take up space you probably want on a road trip.... Jes sayin

Kickstarting a 12v battery is an order of magnitude less power-hungry.

I was thinking to just string a bunch of 40V Ryobi batteries together and fashioning a DC connector. They’re 0.16 kWh / 3 lbs. I figure 20 would work to charge at 800V, right? And just about enough weight capacity left for two people, but the dog would have to stay home.

Hmm, that’s still only 3 kWh at 600 lbs. Kinda amazing how much more energy-dense EV batteries are.

Unless you are testing EVs for a living, that massive battery isn't worth the money for only 2 extra miles, and it certainly won't fit in your pocket.
