Would you still buy the Mach E today?

In some states maybe. The 9.4% sales tax on all car purchases here makes that a bit more complicated. Unless I trade to the same dealer, I take a 9.4% hit even if my car doesn’t depreciate at all.

You also had to foresee this market, and put an order in for a new vehicle a year ago. But selling my MME at the market high would only have given me the ability to trade to an ICE car at the market high. It’s not like EVs were sitting on lots at MSRP last summer. Do I wish I had ordered a new car the exact same day I picked up my 2021 Mach E? Sure. But if we’re going off hindsight, there are some stock trades that would have been an even better decision.
Even with sales tax, unless you paid a huge ADM, you should be fine with the $7500 tax credit.

Either way, if you want another car, at least financially, there should be nothing stopping you from changing your mind right now.

I get that there aren’t many other options out there. But isn’t that the point of the thread? By keeping it, you’re “choosing” to continue to buy it.

We love our First Edition and would buy it again at that price. The new prices would be a tougher call. At that time, the Mach-E was really special and almost nothing came close.

I think if we didn't already own it, I'd hold off another year or two now to see what's coming. Especially Lincoln.

Coming from a BMW i3 +Rex and then BMW X1, I would absolutely take the MME again. I'm still in the honeymoon phase at 2 months of ownership, but it has features neither of my BMWs had. I feel a lot safer while driving the MME. I'm also glad I was able to take over a '22 order and save some cash. My only other consideration was the Volvo C40, but could never get eyes on one before purchase so I couldn't justify it after the tax credit was nuked. Still a nice looking vehicle, but after seeing a C40 while charging one day I'm glad I went with the MME based on looks. I also had a better dealership experience with Ford than Volvo, surprisingly. ?‍♀

I’m solidly in the “Probably would buy again” camp. After driving EV for almost two years, I can’t see myself going back to ICE. Almost every week I’m in a work rental for a couple days, and I can’t enjoy driving ICE at all. I bought Mach-E’s because the price after tax rebate, was pretty close to some hybrid SUVs we were looking at. But that isn’t the case anymore. The other EV offerings are not my happy place either. Maybe the EV6. I’d would definitely hold my decision until I see what comes of the Dodge Daytona Banshee EV.

Owned ours for a year and a half. First iteration of anything, you need to expect issues. The car has actually exceeded my expectations. There has been a few bumps in the road and I knew full well when I bought this that there could be. I'd have no regrets buying it at the price we purchased it for. At todays prices and without the Fed Tax credit, I'd probably take a closer look at some of the competition before buying.

Yes for the same price with the tax credit that I paid. With today’s prices and reduced tax credit … probably not. It’s just beyond my budget.

Ignoring reality and saying “at least financially” makes no sense. I need a car to drive. I can’t sell my MME today, and wait 9-12 months, with no car, for a new car. So no, I’m not “choosing” to buy it again today. That’s a silly take. Also, in 10 days many of us will no longer qualify for the new tax credit. Prices of new EVs will stay elevated because of it, and used values may drop because of it. So I’m kinda stuck with the 2021 MME I have for quite a while unless I want to take a big financial haircut.

I’m not complaining. It is what it is. But acting like we could change our minds without costing us anything is absolutely not true.

Absolutely would. '21GTPE at MSRP less tax credits ($8K) came in at approximately $61K plus tax. A screaming bargain compared to just about anything comparable today, just 1 year later. Even decent performing ICE cars are over $50K now. Never thought it was intended to be a luxury car- expect that's why they called it a Mustang, though the GTPE has plenty of alcantara, and great seats. Magneride minimizes the bounciness, and heated seats, steering wheel, and preconditioning made last winter here in (southern) NY easy enough. Charging at 240 in my garage each night makes charging speed a non-issue. So quick off the line that, at least for me, "5 second rule" really never comes into play (as I'm over 70mph by then anyway). 9K miles without any problems... though admit that I am a little spooked about the seemingly inescapable HVBJB issue- but I knew going in that as a first year model there could be some serious growing pains. Assuming new models have the more "robust" contactors, and that I could find a GTPE at MSRP and get the full tax credit (at least through March, '23), I wouldn't hesitate to get one today either.

Yes but I would also consider a 2023 Volkswagen ID4 alongside if I need to make the purchase decision again.

Yes. I got a GT and absolutely love it. I got the 2022 though when the prices were lower along with the 7500 credit. Without it and with the higher price tag, I'd probably just wait for the market to soften though. I know people here are saying EV6/Ioniq but good lord the car looks ugly when I see them in person.

I would not buy another EV right now given the atmospheric shift in pricing that has occurred. I paid 50K for a 2021 MME premium standard range. After 7500 USD back from the feds and 2500 from MA, I paid just over 40K for the car, which is an absolute steal given current pricing and ridiculous dealer markups. I considered purchasing a Model Y with the 7500 credit they offer plus the year free of super charging. With autopilot it topped out around 80K. No thanks. It's just too much. I will wait.a few years for things to calm down.

getting one of the 1st mach-E's here in southern california in feb 2021 there was really nothing comparable...in terms of looks, features, and price. closest was maybe the model Y, but it was at least $10,000 more. and i always thought tesla was part scam, part tech start up and i felt safer and better about getting a ford.

after all discounts (california, federal, ford, etc) my premium STD RWD was under $40k.

i'm not in the market now and thank goodness. prices have sky rocketed, obviously not just the mach-e but all EVs. so i would be paying a lot more for the same car essentially. the car was purchased via ford options and i originally planned to return the car after 3 years... but unless things change dramatically, i'll probably keep the car and hand it down to my son in 5 years.

it's been a great commuter. super practical for local family trips and errands. awesome for trips to local trails where i can toss the bike in the back. i charge at home and we use the gas odyssey for road trips, so the faster charging that newer EVs have don't add anything. yes it'd be cool if it had vehicle-to-home capabilities, etc. but as a car, it's been a super nice, near luxury car at a very reasonable price.

do i wish phone-as-key worked better? hell yes. and that blue cruise would stay more in the middle of the lane rather than the right? yes. should it have wider rims/tires standard both for handling and looks? yes, in my opinion. so that's why i have jaguar rims :)

while the korean EVs stand out in terms of design and some features, i still love the look of the mach-e much more. the VWs are bland. audi and mercedes fairly boring and expensive. porsche look awesome but expensive.

the only car that's caught my eye is the polestar 3... i know it's owned my geely, but if that helps with battery economies of scale, their volvo/swedish design roots definitely tickle my fancy (previous volvo owner before the mach-e).

but who knows what else will be out there in 4-5 years when i'm in the market again...

Love my Mach-E and if I ever need to replace it yes, it would be another Mach-E, same trim level and hopefully in GREEN, are you listening @Ford Motor Company.
Now the only thing that would steer me away is maybe a BEV Maverick, don't really need a truck but it could be less expensive than a lightning and more "my size", or even a BEV Ranger would be nice, or a two door BEV Fiesta...can you tell I like Fords?
