…thinking about different cars. This is it for me, I’m stuck with my 21 base Select AWD. I have a deposit/reservation for a Blazer EV SS, a deposit/reservation for a Fisker PEAR, a deposit for a base Maverick XL Hybrid that has just been built, and a reservation for my partner’s Fisker Ocean (and she leased a Mazda CX-5 because she needed a car now), and a deposit for an Aptera.

I’m likely going to cancel/walk away from them all, maybe not the Aptera.

I love my MME. Would I have liked no range anxiety and to do truck things (Maverick)? Yes. Do I need it? No.

Would I have liked to have much better driver’s assist features, a much more lux cabin and faster 0-60 (Blazer EV SS)? Yes, but it’s much more expensive than what I have.

Would I have liked to have a less expensive EV (Fisker PEAR). Yes, but who really knows when/if that comes to market.

I can’t get the deposit back for the Fisker Ocean, because it converted to non-refundable in an attempt to retain the the 2022 tax credit, but my partner now likes her CX-5 with HUD, heated and ventilated seats and no range anxiety.

The Aptera still looks great to me on paper (quiet, fast, great range, efficient, economical and different). If it ever comes around, I’ll bf hard pressed not to buy my reserved vehicle.

However, I’m pretty darn happy with what I have now, quirks, short range, slowish charging and not as many creature comforts that some other options have/will have.
Almost every vehicle is a compromise, but at least I have mine now, it does what I need it to do, and I’ll have it paid off in a few years. I’m sticking with the MME, and not likely to buy another vehicle for the next 4 years.

Used car market value went full on bear. The numbers I'm seeing show 5% average loss in the last 90 days which is a pretty steep amount so quickly. I also have the same orders with an ocean and blazer EV ss and am having a similar personal debate. Keep or no keep. A lot can happen between now and then not I don't see it swinging away from this trajectory given it's the result the feds want with their efforts to curb inflation.

Food for thought Blazer EV won't be much faster charging 190 vs 150 on the MME. The Fisker or Blazer will likely have software and hardware issues that I believe Ford has in the rearview.

Ultimately up to you, My little sister has a CX-5, and other than it having NO power and Android Auto in a Mazda is simply a trainwreck she likes it.

Mavericks are hot right now you could probably flip it and make some money or sell your reservation.

Personally, I am not buying anything else until the next battery technology comes out unless I am forced to do so. I would love an EV like the MME with double the range and much after charging but I have adapted. I travel for work and before I put 50k a year on my car now I fly everywhere and rent a car. I put 22k on my MME in 21 months.

Thanks @tuminatr , that’s a really good perspective. Until something truly groundbreaking is available that I can afford, I’m going to keep driving my MME. My MME does what it needs to do, I’m used to the car after 18 months of ownership, and the things that are glitchy/annoying I can live with. I’m just finally out of my honeymoon phase, although it’s still an exciting car and the nicest I’ve owned, I’m just not as obsessed as I once was.

Obviously, we are both a little obsessed if we're here on the forum. Enjoy your car and if you want to keep it fresh and exciting consider some mods. I just bought the Steeda sway bars and will install them in the next few weeks

Haha I feel ya OP. I was in the exact same position last week - the plan was always to trade in the MME for a Lightning. Then I had the chance to order one or pick one up with a "low" ADM and ultimately realized that as much as I'd love a truck, everything else was a compromise.

The MME just checks all the boxes: looks, price, speed, range, efficiency, comfort, panoramic roof, cargo capacity, heated wheel/seats etc. Most importantly, I think BC has spoiled me and to option it on a Lightning would be at least 20k+ more than the MME. 4-5 years sounds exactly right and we'll have a whole new batch of EVs/battery tech to choose from.

The only two EVs I'd consider trading my MME for is the Lyriq or the Rivian R1S.. that's it. Everything else has too many compromises and/or poor value. MME is a great all-rounder and a better Model Y.

I just declined an EV6 Wind AWD and Solterra and probably will decline the incoming Ariya next. Solterra has terrible range and I have nothing but poor dealings with most Nissan dealers. I didn't consider the EV6 an upgrade on the MME to justify the depreciation and range loss. The EV6 GT I am interested in for certain but the CCS network is iffy in Florida and I like having 270-280 miles of highway range (vs 200 with the GT).

I sat in and took pictures of the Fisker Ocean here in Orlando. No thanks to any first-gen Fisker product. I'll let others be beta testers.

I agree with you and @tuminatr . I'd love a Lyriq (I think) but only if it's free ?. This is sorta weird but I want to keep my MME until more people around me have one. I'm a nerd and love to blab my thoughts (hence my participation in these forums). However, forums can't replace good ol' face to face conversations with other MME owners. My car is still a relative unicorn in NH.

Also, NH is small so I have no long drives in my daily life. Zero range anxiety even with the cold weather hit. And yah, by the time I'm ready for my next BEV, they will fly and make coffee.

I did a build and price at ford.ca for new recently and it was a 30% increase from what I paid for basically the same thing (no kick). Too pricy for me to justify. Do you think with the increase in cost of new ours may become a bit more sought after? Shouldn't make them harder to sell I would think.

@BigMach-E we will be keeping ours also as it is starting to work and do what we need. We normally drive our vehicles until the maintenance cost increases to a certain point. This one does not even get driven that much now we have stopped commuting.

I also can put up with the glitches it is the basics that have not worked that have driven me a bit nuts. Charging schedule, 12V battery maintenance and departure schedule. It is getting better one by one. Not thinking of buying another one right now in this current environment. Thinking we slipped in at the right time. 5 10 years down the road I will be researching again looking for solid state. Looks like Ford will have to put up with some whiners for a while.

I don't think so anymore.

I'm imagining myself as considering a new EV and as I start researching, the price of the '23 is a huge turn off compared to the competition. So then I could go looking at used and one of two things happens..either I see used at a significant cost reduction and I wonder wow...why are they not holding resale? Then I start hearing about all the problems people had with them early on and I lose confidence in the used ones being a good buy. (lemons?)

OR...the price of them increases because new is expensive and I'm like...why the hell would I pay more than these people paid when they bought it...I'm not a sucker.

And either way, I cut the MME from my shortlist and look elsewhere.

I don't think I have EVER gotten more than about 115 to 116kw when charging, evening at the 350kw EA chargers. I know the vehicle caps at 150. Has anyone else gotten the 150? If so, what's the trick or is it something the car just works out and mine has decided to cap me? Also, and I'm not a noobie, so please don't bash me, in the middle of my second winter with the car now, so I get range diminishment in the cold weather, but mine which is an AWD SR battery, last winter never got below about 150ish at the lowest end in the winter. This year I'm at around 132ish. That sucks. What gives?

Nothing is holding resale right now. In my area used model y performance are priced 5-10% under used MME GTPE. I think it's this way because some dealers are trying to sell cars and some are in denial that the market is very soft.

Make your own choice but know used car loans are 6%+ and that for sure is affecting premium used car prices.

I wouldn't wait too much if your dead set on getting another car, with the known issues on the mme and the fact that it's one of the few current year cars with 400v batteries, I don't expect this car to hold its value as well as other evs.

I have a 21 base select as well. I have a reservation for the Blazer Ev, with the hopes of getting an RS. I love my car, but I wish I could upgrade to a RT 1 with AWD, but I’m priced out. I’m definitely content with not having all the bells and whistles, but some more range would be nice. With the need for AWD here in Pa, the AWD RT1 is a perfect upgrade for me. Would love a GT, but way too expensive for me. The Blazer EV is probably the only, more doable EVs that is coming out, where it has more than I have now, and the price isn’t exponential. I will say, even if I so happen to mot go through with it for whatever reason, interest rates, further price increases, etc, I really am grateful to have what I already have.

Same.

I like the Mustang a lot. And the time to buy electric has passed - prices are way up, and the tax benefits are mostly gone. Perhaps EVs will be economical again someday, but I expect that day is at least five years away. I don't plan to buy a new car in the meantime, but if I do, it will probably run on gas.
