I have had such a roller coaster ride with this car. Ordered a 2021 really late, converted to a 2022 pretty much right after ordering. Waited so long, I put in for an Ioniq 5, lost the credit on that car. Great, I still have a Mach E on order.

Finally got the build email for the Mach E, shipped with an arrival of the first week in October. The car was damaged in shipping out of Mexico. Got converted to a 2023, to replace the damaged car. Was going to see if it would squeeze in before the end of the year. Then the news that the 2023 would qualify now and a ship date for mid January. Now this...

It's more than the numbers are similar, it shares it's platform with the Escape. It's literally the same powertrain.

You are correct, reading thru the IRS post, it says:
"MSRP is the retail price of the automobile suggested by the manufacturer, including options, accessories and trim but excluding destination fees. It isn't necessarily the price you pay."

Part of it has to do with AWD/4WD or only 2WD and ground clearance. The VW ID4 has the SUV limit on the AWD models. Ford should submit all models separately like VW and Tesla.

The 60's were the golden age of station wagons:

That's even crazier, since the Y is same vehicle size/shape whether it's got the 3rd row of seating installed or not.

Clearly the number of seats is the defining factor, unless it's tipping a weight limit with 2 more seats.

Tax "pros" tend to know less about EV tax credits than most people on this forum.

Most likely the weight. ID.4 fwd is a car and AWD is an SUV.
