Unable to locate a stat, but pretty sure there are more long range Tesla Model S than performance Model S.
I wouldn’t be surprised, and the more affordable model 3 handily outsells the model s in whatever trim. Price outweighs range.

Not as an absolute, it's more of price per gained mile of range, and once past a point, people are willing to pay less per gained mile.

The model S is 69420 for 402 range or $172/mile.
The model 3 long range is 46990 for 353 range or $133/mile.
The upgrade from 3 to S is 22430 for 49 more miles... That is a $457/mile of extra range.

You could say price/mile is a more important factor than price or range alone.

I dont think this thread will ever get resolved to everyone's satisfaction. We all have different needs and concerns.

For those that already have an EV then it would be pretty easy to figure out what range to expect. Ford already told us how many miles of range to expect with L2 32 amp charging per hour so if you know how many miles of range your current vehicle gets per hour of charge on L2 32 amps then you can figure out a ratio. For me, my current EV gains about 24 miles of range per hour of charging. Ford says the MME gains about 21 miles in most publications and 20 miles in some others. If I use 20.5 miles then I divide by 24 miles for my current car and I get a ratio(factor). Next, you will need to know the efficiency numbers of your current vehicle. Most EVs will show your average miles/kWh based on your driving habits. My car gives it to me as a lifetime figure and per trip so you can run the numbers for whichever scenario you want to see.

Multiply the ratio by your average miles/kWh for and that is about what you can expect with the MME. For range under said conditions (lifetime, city, highway, summer, winter etc) multiply that figure by usable battery capacity.

If your current EV is the same motor configuration as the MME on order then that should be pretty close. If you have a single motor EV now and ordered MME with AWD then allow for about a 8-10% reduction in efficiency to be safe.

This is what I was referring to -- the way the scenario was written, it suggested the display shows 270 left, not 170. But I'm guessing the way you described it is what he really meant, that the display was actually showing 170 left at that point (after 100 miles driven), and he really meant it adds up to 270 miles of range.

I think this is all just a misunderstanding based on mistaken syntax.
If you’re talking about what I wrote regarding Zack’s drive I must have been unclear. I asked him about his experience with rangedriving the MachE. He said when he picked it up that morning, the Mach E said 100% charge and it could go 302 miles (I may have rounded to 300 before). After the drive from Northern Virginia to Baltimore, his full charge range was down to about 270. That was consistent with the efficiency I reported and showed in a photo.

Cool. "full charge range" makes more sense.

Full time RWD is great if you only drive in the sun on curvy roads.

I know some people who have RWD only vehicles, and they only use them half the year... put them in storage for the winter.

(Personally I can't keep a vehicle that is only good half the year.... but it works for some, and with covid it seems like it's only about once a week I use my vehicle)

Well I would agree with you with an ICE vehicle. Has for the Niro EV I had watched a lot of You Tube video on it cause that was my first choice, I had ordered and cancel it for the MME, so I can assure you it is not a question of poor traction control has much has a weight transfer to the back when flooring a bit the go pedal.

The range-o-meter usual name is guess-o-meter or GOM. ;)

I can deal with potahtos and tomahtos, just don’t call my trunk a boot ?

although, I abhor the term “frunk,” and the anglicized “fruit” is much better.

You're both operating under a mistaken assumption: i.e. FWD has better traction in slippery conditions than RWD. This is an urban myth and is untrue. It only holds when you have a vehicle with a large percentage of it's weight over the front wheels. So a cheap FWD economy car gets good traction, not because it has FWD, but because most of the weight of the car is over the drive wheels. With a car that has close to 50 - 50 weight distribution--like most EVs--RWD has better traction. First, under acceleration weight transfers to the rear, increasing traction for the rear tires and decreasing it for the fronts. Also, each tire has a finite amount of traction available. Requiring the front wheels to provide steering force as well as motive force limits the traction available for each. Also, FWD cars are notoriously unstable decelerating in slippery conditions. I can't count how many people in FWD cars I've helped out of a ditch over the years. They had no clue that just letting off the gas in a FWD car could cause an uncontrollable spin.

RWD is superior to FWD. There is a reason Porsches have RWD and cheap econo boxes have FWD.
