On a 350 mile freeway road trip in 35 degree weather I’m getting less than 2 miles for each percent charge. This means I’m super charging for 45 minutes at 75 kWh (on a 350 charger) for every 2 hours of driving. Add in the time to divert to a charger, find one that’s actually working (trying 3 to get 1 to work ), available, connect and start charging, it’s more like drive for two hours and handle charging for an hour in a Walmart parking lot.. And spend 15 minutes to find a charger on 3 different apps….

Stressful.

That seems worse that I have seen in our Mach-e. Even in lower temps, I can usually get about 2.5 to 3 hours of driving. What speed are you driving at?

Faster than 65mph will also kill your range, more so in the winter with the heater running.
80 mph in 35 degrees with comfy heat? A 175 kwh battery might get closer to 300/325 miles of range

Yup. I stopped using the Mach-E for any trip exceeding 150 miles. Boy did I get a ton of flack for making a thread about it.

The simple fact is… unless you’re in a Tesla, don’t road trip with your EV. I genuinely feel none of the big automakers are taking charging infrastructure seriously. And that includes Ford with their “dealer” charging stations plan.

The L2's behind the gate at the dealer? LOL. You can charge till these bozos go home, and then you gotta leave.

Under Ford's new business model, electric vehicle dealers will have to have a DCFC charger available. Probably won't see them until 2024 or so.

I would say don't road trip without pre-planning. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail. The infrastructure is not there to just wing it.

I've taken several 2,000 mile (round trip) road trips in the Mach-E. It's an excellent road trip car if you plan ahead.

On the bright side, if you drive slower you'll be able to drive more than 2 hours between charges..........

I have the same spec Mach-E. Curious how your pre-trip planning compared to the actual results? Were you able to use the charging locations you planned to use? Did you hit your SOC estimates for each stop according to A Better Route Planner or the onboard Navigation?

I left on very short notice and didn’t really have time to do trip planning and the gesso meter is not accurate because my driving pattern in town and at different temperatures was way off from the conditions of a road trip. Anyway, now I know and as I said, I will never again use it for a winter time road trip. And now I know how to estimate mileage under these conditions. Less than 2 miles/% charge. Probably from 100% to 0% which of course we never really want to do I would get 185 miles. 80% to 20% probably 115. I wish these mustangs had heat pumps like the Teslas.

You got it!! I read somewhere in the news recently that some country is suing mustang because of the the actual range is considerably less than advertised.

I was doing about 70 mph. And yeah I’m aware of that. High speeds and cold conditions drastically reduce range. I’m not terribly surprised. Just had never done the math on what this trip would actually look like.
