Am I the only one that thinks a THREE year renewal for BC is incredibly stupid?

Money matters more to me than about 90% of the people who post on the forum. That doesn't mean that a monthly option makes sense to Ford.

You do realize that having multiple options raised the administrative work on Ford's side, right? And you also realize that many people will totally forget to renew, then have it not work, then contact the dealer / Ford and waste their time, ... Or the credit card will be bad, and they have to call Ford and do it manually, ... All of which raises the cost.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but having a monthly option is ridiculous. Having an annual option that is more expensive than 3 years might make sense.

Ford has no reason to offer a monthly option. What, are you going to go elsewhere for the feature? No. Are you not going to buy the car? No.

Personally, I dislike any subscriptions, and don't pay for anything as of now (including SiriusXM). When my 3 years are up, if I still have the car, I will decide if I'm using it then.
Lol ok

Incredibly stupid. I have a job 1 car as well. Just got BC about 4 months ago but haven't even used it yet. I can't find any highways/roads around me that BC actually works on and mine is going to expire soon.

I definitely will not be paying/renewing something that I haven't even be able to test yet.

Personally, I think they need to add more roads/highways to BC before they can start asking customers to pay/renew it.

There are few and they look fairly broken.

The funniest part of all of this is that the price isn’t $600. It’s $600 plus tax. LOL. That’s pretty epic on Ford’s part. “Nah, we’re not gonna pay the tax out of the 6 hundy - you need to pay the tax, too.” Amaze.

First, sales tax is frequently not collected on services. Second, that Ford tacked the sales tax on top of the $600 subscription, as opposed to paying it from the $600 or simply rounding up to $650 and paying from that, is funny. Third, software is excluded from sales tax in Michigan.

First it's software. Not a service. You're paying for a connected service which is connected to software. You pay tax on Turbotax don't you? That's a service too. And it's got tax in the name. The humanity!
Second look around at the US. We'll happily pay $600 for something. But $610? That's bullshit. Even higher? No way, not worth that. The second they up the price from anything previously posted it'll be an internet catastrophe. They'll change the name of BC to something else in order to raise or lower the price. Even if they don't get around to rebranding the entire thing.

I'm surprised that you only got 1 year? We got 3 years when we took delivery of our 2021 GT.
The first 21s (Job 1) were sold before BC was functional so they were sold as "Blue Cruise ready*" with a subscription sold separately. When BC became available, they were given 1 year free. Then in late April '21, Ford upped the price and included BC (for 3 years).

They are not selling you software, they are selling you a service subscription. In Michigan Ford would know the sales tax laws for Michigan.

By the way, different states handle the sales tax on software differently. Here in CT, software is taxable but data processing services have a 1% rate. In the distant past in CT, software if stated separately on the invoice was exempt.

But the real issue is why 3 years and not annual renewals.

Ford, I have a solution for you since most people will not pay for 3 years. $25/month or $200/year. You're welcome.

But what if those smaller payments are not sufficient for Ford to keep improving BlueCruise 1.0? Somebody has to keep working on those geofences!

Paying for it at all is incredibly stupid. For every 20 seconds with hands off the wheel, you have to keep 10 seconds on the wheel. What's even the point to take your hands off? It's annoying more than anything else.
I have not found this to be factual. I drive hands free to/from work every day and the only time I have to put my hands on the wheel is one location where the interstate passes over a major highway and there is about 2 football fields distance before HF picks up again...or when i merge between two interstates.

Wow, are you uninformed. o_O

Sales tax not collected on services - https://www.michigan.gov/taxes/busi... certain goods are, that service in this State.

Pay it from the $600, or round up to $650 and pay from that - sales tax must be separately stated on all bills, receipts, or sales slips to customer. While some states may allow them to not separately state sales tax, most states require it.

Software is excluded from sales tax in Michigan- while sales of custom software are in fact exempt in Michigan, you're not paying for software here, you're paying for the constantly updated BlueCruise maps, and the technology in the car. Further, the sale is happening in other states, and Ford has to remit sales tax to wherever the purchaser resides. Just like any online purchase.
