SSM 51696 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E - Headlamps Turn On By Themselves When Vehicle Is Off - Built On Or Before 19-Aug-2022

Some 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E vehicles built on or before 19-Aug-2022 may exhibit a condition of intermittent headlamp operation while the vehicle is off and have diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1533 stored in the body control module (BCM). This may be due to the internal logic within the headlamp switch. To correct this condition, replace the headlamp switch (service base PN: 11654). Refer Workshop Manual, Section 417-01. For claiming, use casual part 11654 and the applicable labor operations of Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

----End SSM----

This is finally the ticket to get your headlamp switch replaced if the headlights occasionally stay on when the vehicle is off. Mention this SSM number to your dealer.

NOTE: A bad headlight switch can prevent you from getting OTAs to install.

This is great. Shouldn't there be a Service Bulletin though?

Is this happening enough that people would leave their car at a dealer for a couple days? It’s so infrequent (haven’t had it happen more than twice in almost 2 years) I wonder if it’s worth it.

It happens to me less than regularly but definitely more than twice since I've had the car. I figure I'll get it fixed at my next 10k checkup or if I have to bring it in for something else. But I'm also lucky that a few days without the car won't impact me all that badly.

I'll probably bring it in when I have something else to bring it in for. I also need the fix for the wireless charging stopping after a minute (since I haven't seen an update from @twraps on their skinned charger replacements), so I've got a list of minor issues that need updates. At least this is a hardware replacement, I still dont' know why they can't do the software fix for the charging OTA

Thank you for this information. It has happened to me 3 times in the 18 months I've owned the car. I noticed that when this happens the leds on the light switch are not iluminated, moving the switch to off then back to auto rectifies the issue. I will probably have the dealer work on this on my 30,000 mile service.

It happens to me infrequently, but I have had it at least 8 times, half of them recently even though the headlight switch is rotated to the off position on a very regular basis. The last time it happened I shut down the car, opened the door, flipped the switch, left the driver’s door open opened the left rear door and got something out of the left rear seat, closed the left rear door, hit the lock button on the driver’s interior door panel, then I got the warning chime. ?‍♂?

Awesome, so this means the part is available? I might schedule an appointment for it. The problem is infrequent, but it's annoying to be surprised by my headlights being on in the driveway.

The revised headlamp switch part number is LK9Z-11654-AB and it is available.

I wonder how many dealers will refuse to replace the switch if they can't reproduce the problem and there's no DTC.
Probably all of them. I think I've seen this a couple times on my car, but I just checked and there is no DTC. So I'm not going to even both trying to have the switch replaced. I already know the dealer's answer.

I’m wondering exactly the same thing… I’ve experienced the problem, and the DTC might have been set, but I’ve cleared my DTCs in the past so… ??‍♂
