When I have a cup in the cupholder I get a rattle sound. When I hold the cup down tight the rattle stops. The sound is not from the actual cup but I think is the mechanism that tries to put tension on the cup with those little things that stick out.

Does anyone have any idea on a way to fix this?

I've noticed this too, but only with cans, and not consistently enough to warrant further investigation. I'll keep an ear out though.

Try a different cup.

I've only noticed this with a can - is it possible your cup is not as wide as the prongs that hold it in place, so it bounces around a bit? Other than a can, the travel mugs and other cups I put in the holder are bigger, and push the prongs wider, so they sit securely.

In my previous vehicle, I found everything from a coin to the little metal thing that releases a SIM card from an iPhone hiding in the bottom of the cupholder, which would cause the cup to rattle.

I also have the same issue, I’ve definitely put large enough items in there so that the little grips shouldn’t be loose. It also only happens when something is actually in the cup holder itself.

Those rims actually look great, better irl than on the website I assume.
Thanks, they were an option on the ‘22 Select. Cleaned them out when I rotated the tires last week - they do collect some decent dust behind the inserts!

Taking apart that Consol is a nightmare. Probably an hour and a half to two hours worth of work to take it apart put something in there and put it back together.

@azerik

It looks like I would pry the top piece off first (<045M54) which would give me access. I can see any screws coming into it that would hold it down. Am I missing something?

Funny I have noticed this as well with my 20oz plastic water bottles.

OMG this rattle drives me crazy and I have yet to figure out how to fix it. Your description is perfect, it only makes noise when something is in it but it's not the things thats in it that makes the noise the pieces that hold the cup firm seem to be the issue. Thank you for posting that photo above, I am tempted to take it on. If you beat me to it take photos and post advice.

Azerik, can you look at my post above with the diagram and correct me if I am wrong?

That part of the console has to lift straight up. To do that you need to remove the 'plate' under the screen, thats part of the dash. From what I remember you need to remove the glovebox, some panels under the dash, handful of screws from the underside, the panel under the screen, then you can lift that piece up. I expect it to crack if you try to just lift the part by the cup holder up enough to try to get the cupholder piece out (but it's screwed to the underside of 045M54. I think even the console piece under the arm rest has to come out as well. I'll dig through the manual once home.

Thanks. So next question. Do I install my rear shocks or tackle this noise first?
