I was curious so I looked it up.My grandpa passed away in 92 at age 92 and did not have running water. In 1973 my dad got out of the Navy and me and my 9 siblings lived with my grandparents for 3 months using honey buckets and an out house. So I know just what you speak of!
Apparently this is more common in the US than I thought. About 1.5 million without running water.
0.4% of the country pales in comparison to about 26% of the rest of the world without running water of course.
