Did you chuckle when you found out that the For Profit company is now offering a free second key fob to people, like myself, who bought their car Almost 2 years ago? Yes that would be a couple hundred dollar freebie for a car that has long been sold. Laugh clown, laugh.
First, the second fob was offered a year ago.

Second, it doesn't cost Ford a couple of hundred dollars. I suspect it is below $50.

Third, it was offered only because PaaK wasn't reliable.

Lastly, they only had to do thousands of these. There are now over 150,000 Mach-Es on the road, and that number is rapidly climbing. The scale would be many magnitudes higher.

Ford should schedule ALL previously built mach e's to come in and retro fit the charging plug to a Tesla plug ?
And then Apple will replace my lightning connector with USB-C, LG will update my TV to support 8k, and maybe Mazda will update my wife's car to support CarPlay like their current models do?

No one should let Ford recognize any interest in a subscription service for access to a supercharger. Your suggestion leads to yes they will pay and we will raise the price every year for the life! My voice is pay no more sub services.
I suspect the subscription will be optional like it is now with EA. If you rarely use the net work, opt out and just pay a higher rate per kilowatt hour.
I don’t believe Ford or GM are paying Tesla anything since it’s an open standard. Tesla can’t stop anybody from using the NACS plug. But they do own the supercharger network and the price you pay for electricity is at their discretion. Tesla can also lock specific vehicles out of the network as they did to Rich Rebuilds.

The connector is an open standard. Authentication through the supercharger network is not an open standard, so they could absolutely prevent anybody from using the NACS plugs at their superchargers.

I don't want a NACS port on my car, I will keep my CCs, if I need Tesla supercharger I will use a adapter. I think this is the best of both worlds scenario

Technically neither meets any standard. And won't until an independent standards body is commissioned to make it a standard. Right now the connector has a design that Tesla owns and has said others can use. But it's still proprietary and subject to Tesla's whims.

They can’t. It’s not just about the plug / receptacle. Tesla’s entire wiring being the adapter is completely different than how Ford currently does it.

I believe there’s a very good explanation of CCS vs NACS on Sandy Munro’s YouTube channel.
well, yes, but... If you think of just mounting the Magic dock (that is known to work) to the car, its a solvable problem.

CSS or Nac. Either way you will need a adapter to use the other.
yes, and a Dongle is not ideal but it's fine. I'm looking forward to getting one for DCFC... already bought one for destination charging.

So, yeah, it's possible that the future is two separate dongles... one for DCFC and one for destination charging.

Nah bruh. In my first year, I barely used public charging. Where I am in NH there are only two, true DCFC stations within 10 miles of my house. Neither one are conveniently located for me. The one to the south (Seabrook, NH) is in a Walmart plaza. EA and Tesla SC (no Magic Docks). The other to the north in Kittery, ME is an EA station. I've used them but only because I could charge for free and not because I needed to. Just not reason for me, personally, to subject Sheeba to an invasive procedure when an adapter (that I'll barely use) will do the trick.

I'll probably pick up the adapter next year whenever Ford/Tesla make it available. I'll go try it out to make sure it works but beyond that it will likely stay buried under my shopping bags in my frunk ?

It's not worth the cost and hassle vs an adapter when CCS is still going to be in the wild for several years. Tesla even needs time to retrofit/upgrade it's superchargers to have cable length that accommodates other cars as well.

Since Tesla refuses to include a screen and card reader, if I can't do it via plug and charge with fordpass, or need a subscription beyond just the charging session fee, I ain't using it. Eventually the other networks will get their shit together and changing plugs isn't going to have anything to do with it, the uptick in EV adoption and competition will.

If Ford thinks any of us besides the odd ball with too much money to care (why don't you have a Taycan or something at that point?) are gonna pay a subscription for what is, was advertised as, and should be, an inherent feature of the car, they've lost their god damn minds and I certainly won't be buying from or recommending them again.
