Early adopters got theirs. Later adopters need a more compelling case for a BEV than high prices, mediocre range, unproven reliability, and a government incentive that is convoluted as hell, benefits the established makers and hurts the new vehicles to market.

Don't count out the impact the oil lobby is having with their rhetoric propagating all over social media.

I’m reading more and more about how EV’s including the Mach-e are piling up on dealers’ lots with not enough buyers. The evidence in the UK is clear as there are now so many new Mach-e’s available immediately. I’m sure part of the problem is that Tesla’s price reductions have not been matched by Ford leaving a huge disparity between the brands in price but not performance. The cost of living crisis isn’t helping either.

I think this is going to be a significant problem for Ford and other EV manufacturers over the next 12 months and that’s before the Chinese EVs arrive in large numbers. This article gives an indication of the problem and notes that some dealers are turning down their allocation of the Mach-e.

How about the counter hypothesis: Ford is making them so fast that their dealers actually have vehicles in stock for a change. Why does that seem so bad?

Kia and Hyundai are aggressively incentivizing their EVs and Hyundai sold 4300-ish in June which is almost as many Lightnings in a quarter. Hyunda/Kia are offering $10-12K in discounts/rebates now.. loyalty bonuses around $2500-$3000 along with the $7500 lease incentive plus dealer discounts.
Ford is offering incentives and low financing on Ligtnings in some markets, right alongside other F-150s. Sounds like they are becoming normalized as a part of the Ford lineup As production increases and Ford identifies which models are selling best.

After owning few EVs including two Mach Es, I am on the fence, I am in the market now for a new car, would let go of my Mach E, going back to ICE, I like to drive a lot, I can't take my $50k car to Phoenix or Vegas, can't really do a road trip ( I am not gonna add 1.5 hours to my 5 hours ride )
So have you tried taking the Mach E to Phoenix or Vegas Or are you just assuming you’ll dislike the experience? Others on this forum said the same thing until they actually road tripped their Mach E and it changed their opinions.

Polestar is, officially, Swedish. Made in China, sure. Owned by Geely, yes. Buy not the same as BYD or NIO. They even stole Volvo's "Hammer of Thor" headlights to remind you they are basically a Volvo
Ehh. It's a 96-99% chinese parts content car made in china (same factory/assembly line as some geelys IIRC) with enough Swedish window dressing to sell to westerners.

Did it really change their opinions?

Plenty of road trip stories posted here.

They range from “not that bad” to “horror story.”

The “not that bad” people are in no hurry. Haven’t seen a single story that convinced me the Mach E was actually “better” on a road trip though than a typical ICE.

I live almost exactly 1 mile from work. When people hear that, many have said “why don’t you ride a bike to work?”

My answer is always the same, “because I have a car.”

Could I ride a bike to work? Sure. But it’ll take longer, it’s less safe, and I wear a suit to work. Plus right now it’s summer in Florida. Lots of reasons not to. That’s how I feel about road tripping in my Mach E. Why don’t we? Because we have a Lincoln Aviator. It’s more comfortable, rides better, has way more room for luggage, and we will get there quicker with zero “where will I refuel” anxiety.

Let’s ask @dbsb3233? He swore he’d never use the Mach E for his frequent Denver-Vegas trips. How many Denver-Vegas round trips have you made in the Mach E Tim?

You never answered the question I asked @moparguy: Have you tried taking the Mach E to Phoenix or Vegas Or are you just assuming you’ll dislike the experience?

I’ve driven my Mach E MD-FL twice, MD-NY twice, and MD-IN once. When I rented a brand new GMC SUV for a 2-1/2 hour from Edmonton to Jasper on a recent business trip, I found myself wishing I had rented an electric. My experience road-tripping the Mach E has been great.

Personally, I would rather road trip in an EV, even if it's a bit slower. Sure, I can plow through a long drive faster with an ICE, but I really like not having to stop at smelly gas stations. Also, every day I am seeing repercussions of climate change. I want to do my part to slow that down, and help push EVs to be more accessible practical in the future. I can slow down a bit now for the sake of the future.

I have had zero issues with road trips in my Mach E and in my Rivian, so far. I am taking the Rivian on a Phoenix to Carlsbad, CA trip next week and did the same trip in the MME last summer. All my charges in the MME worked first time and I got good charging rates at every stop.

EV sales have hit a wall, temporarily. IMO, consumers are waiting for prices to come down and waiting to see where technology is going. You could overpay for an EV today which may be obsolete in a few years due to changes in technology.

32,000 miles worth of road trips now (mostly that route but also other trips too). ?

Although to be fair, I said that back in 2020, the year before we got the MME and when there was a 200 mile gap with no DCFC on I-70 in Utah. That made it look like a huge risk to even try (at least at the 80 MPH speed limit). But later that year EA added the Green River station midway, and that changed the whole equation. Now we've done that route probably 15 times.

I've since made that 200 mile gap once when that station was down, but had to charge to 100%, and drop the speed to 10 MPH below the speed limit. Desperation move I wouldn't want to do normally.

Sales of models that took a hit when the feds jacked around the tax credit, anyway. While Tesla got it back and saw buyers flock to them again.

I think that's the biggest driver with the shift in numbers right now.

The issue is when Ford rolled them they didn’t offer any rebates. You cannot expect people to try different things when markups were an ongoing issue with the EV’s. Hopefully they will continue to entice people with attractive rebates

Mentioned in many places is that quite a bit of inventory is in transit. That is why I am interested to see what develops over the next several months. The increasing cost of electricity in many places and inability to charge at home also makes the EV less attractive.

Will this mean substantial Mach-E discounts in the future? Would love to pickup a Premium Mach-E for $30k haha.
