I’m surprised none of you appears to have considered the possibility that “we are going to change that limit” doesn’t exclude a reduction in the five second limit… Especially since he goes on to say, “We've done that on testing to make sure the vehicle lasts the way it is expected for the customers..."

I think some watching are endowed with far too much wishful thinking. All I heard was political hot air. Ford has complete data on every single one of our vehicles. Hundreds of thousands of them, all of the data points. They're not going to change anything in these regards and people believing anything but are just kidding themselves.
Did you even watch the video?

He directly says they’re going to increase the limit via an OTA update on existing Mach E GTs.

That’s about as clear as it gets. It used to be “wishful thinking,” but then the person in charge made it a reality.

Yes, I heard "they can", but that wasn't even talking about the 5 second limit, it was talking about heat soaking on the track.

Holy hell some people just want to complain. He actually said a lot more than I was expecting him to.

Since we don't have silly arguments about busbars melting like string cheese in a fire, non-"beefy" cooling, or HVBJB contactors welding themselves shut, let's speculate about when we're going to get this OTA.

My guess: they probably would like to have new acceleration figures to advertise with the 2024 model year. '24 MY will start production in October(?) so we might see it OTA before the new year?

a reality... just like $800/yr for BC? o_O

I don't think he would have said it would be increased if the decision wasn't fairly far along. Congrats to the GT guys.

we need a thread on over under bets...

  • Before or after October 1?
  • longer or shorter than 8 seconds total?
  • same or different level of throttling when it kicks in? (I don't think we have an objective measure for this)

And the next sentence after “we can” was “we are going to change that limit.”

The whole quote is also in the first post. And it was a response to a question about the 5 second limit and he even specifically talks about the acceleration after the 0-60.

Start watching at 8 min in the video. It’s not wishful thinking, it seems as clear as it can get.

“one of them is the limit on the throttling on the power of the GT, it
Has a fantastic 0-60 time but then we throttle the power to the wheels. That is something we can control OTA and we are going to change that limit.”

^^direct quote.

I did.

I'm going to give you a raise. Sure it's only 1 cent a year, but you did get a raise. See how that works?

He said "We are going to change that limit [throttling after a certain period of time for the GT]"

That's logical if you think Darren Palmer's job is to piss you off vs. selling cars.

Because luckily he says the word “raise” multiple times.

Agreed, they must have been testing this and are planning to send it out if he is publicly talking about it so confidently.

As others have shown here on this forum, the GT at full throttle doesn’t seem to show much temperature change, if any. The Ford team likely has gathered enough data now to have tested it and feel comfortable.

I'm just being real here, relying on their past performance. I get it, some people want to enjoy whatever high this triggered in them, but let's come back to reality. Otherwise in 6 weeks we're going to start hearing the whinging on why it's not actually implemented like the frunk release.

You said “they’re not going to change anything.”

Even a 1 cent raise is a change. See how that works?

My guess is an OTA upgrade to 800v architecture
