Headlights off is a precondition for applying an update.

If off means not on, they are not on during daylight- maybe I am too literal , LOL

You don't have to turn it off. It's just when it gets into it's funk and acts up that it causes issues. I turned it to auto and it updated after that. I never turned them off.
Yep. We agree. But f*** is awesome. ?

I have come to especially like the automatic parking brake when turning off the car or putting it in park. I never realized how annoying the rocking was until it stopped.
Fully agree. Of all the “fixes” delivered via OTA this has been the most noticeable improvement in my mind. I remember some complaints a while back that some had about the rocking and they were told it was typical of all cars. Mine rocked way more than other cars but now doesn’t at all.

This car gets better everyday! I was talking to a friend last night who got an EV6 same time I got my MME. He said now he thinks he made the wrong choice. His quote was "Ford seems like the only one truely in the game and competing with Tesla" specifically about software updates, NCAS charging, but then he also regretted the smaller size and a few other items.
it's usually best if people don't second guess car purchases. :)
What are a couple examples of features removed? I miss the big tiles, because I like the tire pressure to be constantly visible.
@portlandg is in the U.K.. U.K, EU, and Eurozone cars are having a very different experience with the OTAs.

I had this happen once to me. As I approached the car, it unlocked itself and opened the rear hatch. I was about 10 feet away from it when it happened.
Join the club. There's hundreds of posts about it. This is the first I've seen of the frunk though.

Update:
I let the car run for 5 hours just to see if it would hit the SOC. Tried to run the update and it still failed. It's set to try again at 1am so let's see. Car is off, locked and lights set to auto. Unfortunately I do not have the option to charge at home (stupid HOA). What a pain in the ass...

In California, HOAs can no longer deny charger requests. They can require more insurance in case of a fire, but can’t just say no.

Do you have a link to this? I have been fighting this since last April with my HOA.

As an update:
The 1am update failed. Drove the car to work this morning (25 miles) and it's sitting in the work lot running to see what happens. I am going to buy an OBD scanner today so I can see what my actual SOC is. Last time this happened as I said previously the 12v failed and they had to replace it.

So the update competed successfully this afternoon. I planned to start it right after the charge finished, but I was in meetings and could not. So it sat for a couple hours, connected to the charger, fully charged.

I left the car connected to the EVSE, and selected "update now". I turned off the car, turned off the headlights, and exited the car. While it did the update, the car pulled some decent power from the EVSE:

If you are having trouble getting an update to complete, try charging your car and keeping it connected after it finishes. It worked for me.
11 kW from an EVSE? That's crazy. Which one do you have, that's gotta be a 60A circuit right?
