Anyone else out there notice the phone charger also cooks your phone? I can't leave mine on for long periods because it heats it up to the point the screen is too hot.

I replaced my rubber mat with a TWRAPS dual charger. Took care of the heat issues and you can charge 2 phones.

Does not work for Android. Apple only.

Edit: Works for Android if you have a MagSafe case. Information from TWRAPS below.

Yes!

Barely keeps the state of charge but cooks it until the message comes up that iPhone will turn of due to the heat.

Every silver lining has a cloud though, it saves the e-heater and keeps me warm in winter.

Dont tend to use it anymore!

I would be good with just being able to shut ford wireless charging to off so I can put my phone where it belongs and it does not cook. Right now you need to find an alternate place if you will be traveling any extended period of time. Some sort of material placed below the rubber pad to stop them from connecting. Something cheap that you can cut to shape using the mat as a template. Any suggestions on material that would do it best. 1/4" Plexiglass?

Saw a review for NIO ev in china. Apparently this isnt just a Mach-e thing.
Their approach was to have 4 'bumps' in the mat to lift the phone a mm or 2 above it and allow for convection cooling.
Too much of course and the charger wont start.
So Im going to try a similar approach with 2mm foam tape dots.

Yes, lots of threads on this. There’s a software update for earlier build cars. That helped my phone stay charging, but didn’t help with the heat. I’ve never experienced a Qi charger built into a vehicle that didn’t suck.

Technically it would work with Android if you have a MagSafe case for it. I've tested with a Galaxy S23 Plus and works fine.

so I can put my phone where it belongs
The right half of the centre tray isn’t part of the charger (maybe left on US models-lift mat to check) and ‘phone’s perfectly safe from overheating there.

I did not know this.

Maybe you should change the information on your website too compatible with MagSafe case phones. iPhones and Android. Sorry if I posted wrong information about your product.

That would double your target market.

"Wireless" sounds like freedom and the future. But I've found that my iPhone's charging thermodynamics and carplay work best with a short USB-C cable. This also solves the problem of disconnection when exposed to strong (probably illegally strong) wifi signals near road construction sites.

Yes, and the fact that there’s a huge delay between pausing/unpausing or skipping through audio like podcast ads on wireless CarPlay that isn’t present on wired.

My only issue with wired is that there is excessive audio clipping at random times but the audio team is apparently looking into it.

This happens even in our Honda Odyssey. I was thinking it was intrinsic to wireless charging. Have you tried charging with the case off?

Shane, great coaching! I went and bought these Scotch floor pads. You know the kind you put under chair legs. They have adhesive on the back side but won't scratch back side of phone. Stuck 5 down (not where camera is) and sits pretty stable and level. AND charges! Pads are 3-4mm thick so air should be able to circulate. We'll see.

I just put the phone face down. Problem solved, no charging and no hot phone.
