Do you think Ford would ever redesign the "Frunk" to carry a Spare Tire?

Here's another thought I had when my son cracked my front tire against a curb a couple weeks ago. Why not redesign the Frunk to carry a Spare and a jack? I don't think I've ever used the frunk for anything of importance since owning the vehicle. The Frunk is sort of a novelty, so instead Ford should offer a "Road Safety" option and have a package that includes a frunk design with a Spare, jack, road reflectors, emergency lighting, etc... I think it could be a sensible option that many would choose. When my tire literally cracked between the sharp edge of a cobblestone curb and its own rim, it immediately fell flat and was irreparable. The Flat Filler kit provided in the vehicle was useless so I got stuck waiting 2 hours for a tow. Boy did I wish there was a Spare that day! Any thoughts?

Many cars, EV or ICE are going without spare tires at all. It isn’t specific to Mach-E. So I really doubt that they’re going to redesign anything to accommodate a relic from 1976. In modern days most people don’t have the knowledge, tools, or willingness to change a tire and will just call for roadside service anyway. So why handicap everyone’s car with extra weight and taken up space for the few people who might someday actually use the spare?
Don’t get me wrong, I like the security of having a spare, but in reality, I’ve used two spare tires in my whole life. One on a 1974 dodge power wagon, and one on a 2010 Ford F-150. I’ve probably paid more in gas hauling spares around than it would have cost for those two roadside service calls.

No. A spare won’t fit there absent moving an awful lot of equipment around and that’s not genuinely feasible on a mass produced vehicle. Take a look at the threads where there are pictures of the Frunk area without any covers or frunk tub — the tub is about as big as it can be atm.

As for the novelty aspect, many of us actually use the frunk regularly, it’s far from a novelty act for us.

There are companies that sell spares for the MME btw. While they are small, they still won’t fit in the Frunk. But could provide some peace of mind if you keep it in the trunk area.

I've been driving for over 50 years. I've used a spare tire maybe 3 times. It's just not important unless you live an area where the roads are horrible and filled with debris.

Haven’t had a spare for near a decade. With high end tire costs and the fact that most are never used and die from dry rot most buyers are not willing to bear that cost.

Weight, and cost. Spare tires have been eliminated from vehicles for years, this is nothing new. What's different about the Mach-E vs. some other vehicles is that you can't fit one if you want to.

The real issue here is that Ford needs to ensure that Roadside Assistance response is timely. Some have waited many, many hours. More than 2 hours is not acceptable unless you're in the middle of nowhere.

It's important when you have a flat. You can't plan a flat.

How heavy are those max 50mph temporary tires?

It just seems ridiculous to have to get towed for a flat.

This happened to me a few years ago, and thats when I also found out that once you use the emergency flat repair kit (which didn't work), the tire can't be repaired. That car could fit a spare if you removed the foam insert they put in instead. (although I never got one in spite of this. I think this is only the 3rd time in approx 35 years of driving I've had a flat, and the first time I didn't have some sort of spare).

Last time I used roadside assistance (2 months ago), I decided that its very "ubereats" like. You call a number that recognizes the number you dialed, they answer accordingly, pretending to be whomever (I can't prove this, but I'll bet i'm right) then they put out a "job" and its putluck what you get. My tow truck driver's phone kept going off with "There is a job in your area" the entire time we were going to the dealer. his airconditioning also didn't work (it was july), and he had an external speedometer stuck to the dash in front of the real speedometer (plugged into the obd port i assume). several other guages didn't work either. He was nice and professional though (other than the state of his truck).

Considering what it cost me, i'm surprised he wasn't driving the cadillac of tow trucks. I wonder what percentage they actually get.

Wondering now how hard it is to find a towtruck that can provide a few KwH of emergency charge directly (as opposed to towing you somewhere), although hoping I never need this.

Do you think it might be possible to put a gas engine in that compartment?

How about a generator for when you get stranded in the middle of nowhere and need to turn into a hybrid?

Doesn't the rear trunk space fit a donut spare under the floor panel?
