I bought the MyQ HomeKit bridge years ago, when it first came out. After much futzing around, I got it to work sporadically, but it hasn’t worked in over a year now, no matter how much resetting, etc., I do.
I’ve been searching for a HomeKit compatible garage door opener (or accessory) for some time, and all the ones I’ve found have various stupid functional limitations.
Alternatively I'm just going to drop this here. Smart control of your garage from any platform, without the need for MyQ BS
If you have an opener labeled security+ 2.0, this will allow local control over the network via mqtt, complete with lighting control

Otherwise you can use a Shelly Plus relay for local smart control

Both of those options pair very well with home assistant if you use that

I use this and it works perfectly every time.

Garage door button already shows up on my CarPlay screen, not sure why this is new?

I don’t pay for a subscription, nor would I.
What app of your garage door button? Do you use MyQ?

Yes it’s MyQ but I added it to HomeKit. I’ve got the Home Bridge kit thing that connects to WiFi and broadcasts the 900 MHz signals to open doors and receive status updates.

Let me show my ignorance here, doesn't everyone just have the 3 buttons in the visor? Aren't we all just using this? What am I missing?

That's so 90's at best.

Plus think of all the extra energy used to reach all the way up there and press those buttons when instead you only have to lift your arm up enough to press a button on the infotainment screen or better yet tell Siri to open or close the door.

I am confused by all of this subscription stuff. Exactly what would we have to pay for?

My setup is the same as Lee's. I added my MyQ to Apple HomeKit (8 years ago) and I usually use Siri just prior to turning on to my street so by the time I get to my driveway the door is open. I have two doors and call them Left Door or Right Door. I used to have an automation set up in HomeKit so when I arrived at home the door would automatically open and when leaving it would close. Since I sometimes park in the driveway and don't want the door to open, I turned that off and just use Siri. I also have that button on CarPlay for my Right Door, the one I use for the Mach-E, but never use it.

There is a free software product, Homebridge, https://github.com/homebridge/homebridge, which has lots of plugins including one for myQ, https://github.com/hjdhjd/homebridge-myq.

Up until very recently you could use those two products for free to enable Homekit access and get your garage door to appear in CarPlay. I used it for years.

But myQ has shutdown any 3rd party API access, sound familiar?
I'm a longtime user of HomeBridge and the mentioned PlugIn. It still works for me, I just checked to be sure. That's not to say it will work tomorrow, but I checked the PlugIn code and the developer is still actively updating as recently as yesterday, with no mention of API shutdown.

If it stopped working for you, maybe your PlugIn needs an update? The developer's notes mention the challenge of updating as MyQ randomly changes the API.

I cannot use the buttons in my visor. They will only open the doors when I get within about 10 feet and sometimes closer. I want the doors to be already open upon arriving in my driveway. I also like status and Siri letting me know the door has opened or is closed.

I’ve got MyQ controller setup via Homebrisge but of course I have one of the few garage door opener brands that doesn’t work with the radio of the MyQ receiver so all I can see is the status of the door ?

There was a reddit post where people mentioned that myQ was shutting down 3rd party API access.

A couple days after I saw that post my homebridge logs filled up with this:

I have not changed my myQ password and can still use the myQ app.

The same symptoms from the reddit thread. That person called myQ and says they were told that 3rd party access is being shut off.

This has been an issue for all 3rd party platforms for about 2 weeks now. Yes they are supposedly shutting down access unless it's paid. A work around for those who can modify the code is to change the browser header to chrome or Firefox. I'm sure that will be figured out soon as well.

For those who say it still works, it's been intermittent. Last night 3rd party access worked fine, but 2 days ago it didn't.

If you're bored and want to read up on it here you go: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/101912

I just forced homebridge to restart and it appears to have logged in fine, for now. I should have tried that a couple days ago.

I would be willing to pay the subscription rates they are charging Honda/Acura/and others if it would just let homekit work through the plugin.

You are controlling it through HomeKit, that's how I have it setup too. If you don't have MyQ hub/bridge that allows HomeKit compatability, you cannot control it through CarPlay (right now), you have to use the visor buttons or your MyQ app on your phone/watch.

If the actual MyQ app comes to our CarPlay, it requires a subscription to work in CarPlay. Which is ridiculous, since the app on your phone doesn't need one to open and close the door.
