No surprising. There are 4 (5 if you count the old Tesla Roadster) in just North America and Europe.
Yeah in this day and age it's a bit idiotic.

Look at the evolution of VGA, USB to name a couple. I don't think it will change for EV's . How does this square connector fit into this circle port; ah you force it in ;)

Here is my question. Once Ford starts building in the tesla charging ports in 2025, will there be an option for us to go to a ford dealer and [pay] to swap out the ports on our cars that are built from 2020-2024? I would rather pay for that, then fiddle around with an adaptor…..
No. The electrical system in the car has to change significantly with respect to the contactors, in order to support AC and DC voltages on the same pins. Otherwise there is a big safety issue.

The CCS specification addresses the safety isolation on the charger and connector side. NACS requires the safety isolation to be addressed in the vehicle. And with the Ford history of welded contactors in the car, I prefer the CCS solution.

Wait, you’re saying you can’t change the port to the Tesla port if it already has the CCS port, yet I can use a simple adapter? Well, I kind of understand what you’re saying it doesn’t really make sense.

I suspect the adapters for DCFC are not going to usable for L2. For the reasons Bill stated.

My guess is that this would be one expensive swap-out. No thanks.

There are other threads on this, Tesla will build adapters and Ford will sell them to you, next year. Rivian has stated they will give me one for free, so I will use that one for all my EVs.

Adapters can be used with any model or year EV that supports CCS, as long as you have the Tesla app.
The press release from Ford stated that every EV owner would get an adapter for free, I suspect you'll only be able to activated the SC via The Blue Oval Network, Their BON Network page states "Tesla Superchargers will be added in early 2024. "

https://www.ford.com/support/how-to...ork/what-is-the-ford-blueoval-charge-network/

I also suspect they'll be able to do P&C on the SuperCharger network, Ford would just have to do the AAA, I'm pretty sure the model is similar to how RADIUS works.

Can you point us to the press release stating they are going to be free?

Tesla uses the same pins for AC and DC charging. CCS doesn't. It's going to take more than just changing the socket to get it to work.

The adapter from NACS to CCS, only connects the NACS power to the CCS DC pins, it WILL NOT connect the power to the AC pins on the J1772 part of the connector, those pins remain an open circuit for safety reasons.

In Tesla cars they designed the AC power supply to be connected to DC input, and the contactor arrangement in the cars are different to isolate AC and DC power.

https://fordauthority.com/2023/05/all-current-ford-ev-owners-will-get-tesla-nacs-adapter/

“We’re going to ship an adapter to everyone who’s bought a Ford EV,” Farley said. “This is not just for the future, it’s for all the people who already bought our vehicles. So they’ll get an adapter from Ford, they go on FordPass, they pick the payment option they want, all the billing is the same as it is today, so it’s going to be super easy.”

Which is why I suspect the only way you'll be able to use the SC network is via FordPass and ford is going to be making back a bit of the adapter cost, those adapters will be 100% passive so they have no electronics in them.

Forgive me for being skeptical, but I'll believe it when the free adapter shows up at my house. Maybe if I acutally see it in writing. Jim and Darren have a habit of saying things in interviews that never actually happen.

I don't care either way, I'll get one or buy one. This company is trying to build one to get approved too https://a2zevshop.com/

I must be missing something significant. I can understand Ford, GM, etc. EV owners using Tesla chargers AFTER the manufacturers include both the Tesla connector and the software interface w/in the EV. However, and this is what I'm missing, for EVs with non-Tesla connectors and software interface, how will these EVs be able to interface with a Tesla charger, and thus receive power?
