With my old 'ice' cars I found dealers charged far too much for service so we'd avoid them and use local shops instead.

Now with my new pretty girl and all this 'newfangled technology' it has me wondering if I should defer to the dealership.

Curious what the community thinks here.

Now with my new pretty girl and all this 'newfangled technology' it has me wondering if I should defer to the dealership.

Curious what the community thinks here.
Technical issues should go to the dealer since they accumulated problems on mme across the country. Tech bulletins are issued on fixes. For tire rotation and under carriage insp are done my mechanic.

That's actually a good granularity I wish I'd specified in the poll. I think recalls / "something is horribly wrong" probably merit going to the dealer. Tire rotation / inspections maybe fine by a mechanic?

I just got auto scheduled for a servicing and wondering if it's worth doing. They said it's a "Multi Point Inspection"; so I'll probably take it there for it's first visit and see what I do on subsequent ones.

I use the dealer and use my Ford Credit points to pay for it.

You're still spending money, 1/2 cent per point. You could spend it on other things, so you're not saving anything.

Please explain to me how the local shop, that isn't EV-trained, has a freaking clue what they are inspecting?

"Hey Clem, what's this there durn thing?"

Sure, you can rotate tires anywhere. But don't take it for brakes anywhere because they need Ford's computers to properly do that also.

Find a competent Ford EV-certified dealer except for tire rotations.

The amount is irrelevant. It's currency, just like money. People say "I use my Ford Points", implying it doesn't cost anything.

When the adapter comes out for Tesla SuperChargers, and it costs say $200, you can use 40,000 points or spend $200. Unless you used the points for a repair. Or floor mats. Yes, it's "found money", because you got $110 worth when you bought the car, but it's money you could use to buy other things you may need.

I am retired and on limited income. I will use my points as I see fit not buy someone else's suggestion. Over and Out.

your poll doesn't cover my response choice(s).....

I do all 'normal' service myself.... wipers, cabin filter, fluids, tire rotation are really all there is.

I also do 'mods' myself... access holes for 12v and HV disconnect, lift pads, rear hitch receiver for bike rack and light towing, mid screen backer, cargo floor bracket repair, scratch and paint repair, and stuff like that.

Dealer for 'dealer-only' work required for recalls like windshield, HVBJB, and maybe soon half-shaft replacement.

Dealer every time except renewal of tyres and a couple of 4-wheel alignment check/adjusts per year.

Invest in a full dealer service history helps preserves resale value and precludes any potential for criticism that lack of routine maintenance contributed to issues which may arise in or out of warranty when I might need a sympathetic contribution towards a repair cost.

I have my MME scheduled for a check up at the dealer next month which will be about 11 months from when I bought it last December. Plan on using my Ford points to pay for it.
