What's the point? A battery failed out of warranty? It happens, not often but happens. Also heard of ICE engines needing replacement just out of warranty. More to story, 42k-56k for whole new car, doubt 50k for battery. Unless costs more to replace battery than whole new car? FUD with 1 bad story with 1 bad car and 1 bad dealer. Could be dealer wanting them to buy new, or typical trying to fleece customer. New headline
If you would have read the article you would have seen that he exceeded the km on the battery warranty. Even in the USA the warranty is based on miles and years, whichever comes first. Additionally, the warranty in Canada is identical to that of the USA and also for 8 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km).Too bad he didnt live in the US, because the 8-year battery warranty would have covered it.......
The car was out by mileage.Too bad he didnt live in the US, because the 8-year battery warranty would have covered it.......
Import parts are notoriously expensive. I'd like to see the quote to understand the breakdown of parts and labor. It's also $50K Canadian, so ~$36.5k US. Which is still a lot, of course. I hadn't heard that an M3 battery replacement was that low. I remember seeing stories about Model S replacement being well over $20k.Sure, the battery died after 100k miles, understandable. But why so much to replace? Tesla charge <10k to replace a M3 battery pack.
No: He was over the mile / kilometer limit.Too bad he didnt live in the US, because the 8-year battery warranty would have covered it.......
The point is that a battery failure shortly after the warranty expired resulted in a repair cost so high that the car was worthless. What's the point? A battery failed out of warranty?
There are plenty of ICE vehicles that the cost of a new engine would exceed the value of the vehicle at eight years old. This story is mostly scare tactic BS.The point is that a battery failure shortly after the warranty expired resulted in a repair cost so high that the car was worthless.
In a world where ICE vehicles can be resonably maintained for 10+ years after their warranties expire, this isn't a good look for EVs. No one wants a car that is un-repairable junk after just 8 years.
Not correct. The car had warranty remaining when he bought it. The battery failed shortly after the car passed the 160,000 Km warranty limit. In any case, he bought a used EV out of warranty because of mileage. He took a risk and lost.
A replacement engine is $5K. Not $50K.There are plenty of ICE vehicles that the cost of a new engine would exceed the value of the vehicle at eight years old. This story is mostly scare tactic BS.
