VW laid off 2000 employees from their EV software division alone. Which is insane. How can they expect to release the Macan EV even in 4 months? It's possible the Macan EV/Q6 won't be affected but it seems unlikely imo.

I feel dumb for not understanding how it takes thousands of people to write the software for a car.

I could understand a few dozen working in teams on different components. But what do these thousands of people do?

I get the feeling they’re overcomplicating things, which is why we have so many different bugs in our cars with each component working with different code.

Reading their job opening descriptions tells me I don’t know squat about what they do there-

It’s pretty simple

each person is assigned 1 line of code

as we know there are thousands of lines

Not sure what will happen now that so many of been fired , I guess each person may have juggle multiple lines.

I thought I read somewhere that Tesla uses a few dozen all star programmers, but likely a lot more to fine tune everything. The intention was to avoid 'the committee designing the camel'. But of course, that camel was an outstandingly useful animal And Tesla's AP is definitely 2nd rate.

Tesla should have concentrated on doing the best AP. And I think FSD is not possible without smart roads (which is possible - now)

New details! Range is terrible. They spent so much time developing it only to give it uncompetitive specs? I appreciate that they left mechanical buttons in the interior.

- 100 kWh battery
- 270 kW charging speed
- 310 mile range on WLTP (~ 250 miles on our EPA system)

Yeah, huge letdown. Two people will buy it. I would rather have the CyberTruck.

My first reaction reading the specs was “very unimpressed”.
However after watching the video and seeing how quickly it’s going to charge, really unsure the range is going to be an issue. Can’t wait to test drive one!

Just want to point out: public charging sucks. Counting on public charging to make up for crappy range is a loosing battle IMO.

That range is comparable to the range of the Taycan, and the charging curve and speed make up for it. I don't see this blowing the competition away, but it probably will hold its own.

If EPA-range-to-real-world-range of the Taycan is anything to go by, this will have a real world range of 300-350 miles. That's more than "competitive" to me. Charging speed is excellent. We don't know the price yet, but "below the Taycan" is good. ..although I'm sure I still won't be able to afford it...

Good point about Porsche EVs exceeding range estimates! Charging speed *is* excellent but as mkhuffman pointed out above, the public charging network leaves much to be desired.

Caring about range in a 600 hp EV SUV is like caring about fuel economy in a 600 hp ICE SUV.

603 hp and only 10 miles less range than my GTPE.

I have no complaints. ?‍♂

But the difference is it takes a lot longer to charge than it is to top off the gas tank on a 600 hp ICE SUV. And you'll have to charge more frequently with that low range.
