I'm interested in doing this but not dropping huge money on it. Has anyone used one of the various VCM2 adapters from AliExpress? They appear to be the same ones found on eBay (and look shockingly similar to the Ford Rotunda adapter!).

Also looking at power supplies, what about something like this on Amazon?

I can't speak on the VCI, but that power supply is awesome.

New set of powertrain updates showing up for me today.
I got an IPMA and a PSCM the same day I got the new powertrain items. I'm guessing you haven't seen those yet though.

I just checked and my '21 Job 1 has IPMA and PSCM updates waiting. It is going to be interesting as my car is not garaged and we just had a snowstorm go through yesterday. It does seem like the snow is melting a bit.

I hope we are just an update or two away from the new BlueCruise. I think a GWM update will cap it off.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt that is the case. The IPMA update you are showing has everything needed for BC 1.4 "hidden" inside of, but Ford did not include the config to activate the features. In addition to that, for any vehicle like yours that has BC 1.0, there is no option in the APIM to turn on lane change assist, predictive speed, or auto lane repositioning, so you would most likely need an APIM update, too. It goes beyond my scope of knowledge if there is a way for Ford get the config needed for BC 1.4 to work to the IPMA without yet another IPMA update.

There are some updates that will fail using the fake adapters, and there is a chance at them sending back bad data to Ford's database and causing issues with updates down the road. I would suggest NOT using anything that isn't supported by Ford to actually update modules.

This is the one I used initially. It will fail on the CMR updates if you ever get one. This is one of the ones that report corrupted data back to Ford also

When I was looking at possibly getting a VCM2 adapter I found some videos on the internet about the various clones. The online advice was to get a "full chip" one, but I also saw comments of misleading ads, like saying it was "full chip" when it was not. I saw this video about the difference and the author of the video commented to get the European "full chip" clones rather than the chinese ones.

Unfortunately I did not find a video that said the "full chip" he got worked.

I decided to spend the money and get a Mongoose-Plus Ford2 as it is approved by Ford. It works great.

BTW, I had no problems doing CMR updates.

Agree. I really don't think one should mess around with non-approved Ford adapters when updating the software on your vehicle.

Mike, that IPMA update alone took almost 3 hours with all the pumps and fans running continuously. You definitely need the power supply hooked up on that one! Did your's take that long? Also, my SOBMD still hasn't cleared since last week either and I tried again today but it's still there.

Sage advice, thanks. I don't want to cut corners that could result in my car being towed to the dealer.
