Key Fob Alternatives

Bought my wife a MachE and I was curious if there are any key fob alternatives out there? I also have a tesla and I know I can get a key card ring for instance and I know the Jag Fpace has the braclet that works as the transponder key. Curious if anything like that exists for the mache. We both are snooty and hate carrying key fobs, hah.

You can setup PAAK.

I feel naked without one

When I drive one of our other cars that does not have PAAK, it feels archaic to have to carry a key fob.

I have not carried a wallet for about 5 years.

For the past two it has been just my phone which has a case that can carry my driver's license and a credit card. With Apple Pay I generally don't need the credit card but the case holds two cards so it is there for the places that do not take Apple Pay. Georgia is one of the few states that supports the Apple Digital Id so my license is in my Apple Wallet as well but the digital license is not accepted by anyone other than the TSA at the moment so I still need to carry my physical license. The laws need to be updated and equipment purchased by law enforcement agencies before the digital version is synonymous with the physical version.

Washington State just allows Apple wallet to be used for insurance cards. Times a comin!

Georgia doesn't let you supply an insurance card at all, digital or physical.

The only allowed source of proof of insurance is a database that the police have access to and all insurance companies in the state submit your data.

As the world becomes more connected that will the the way, no physical or digital cards, just the online database data.

I went looking for something initially, I love PAAK but there are times (raining) I don't want to stand out in the rain waiting for PAAK to connect. The Ford Key seems ridiculously large. I would gladly pay for a smaller version if they offered it. No buttons!

My workaround when I leave the store is to open up fordpass and unlock while I am in dryness. I melt in the rain

Yeah, but thats still super slow as well. I really hope they step up their APP game soon. Teslas app has spoiled me.

You should know upfront that your expectations are widely out of line with reality for Ford. You won't ever see any bracelet or anything like that. Nor will you see functionality or speed to update features like Tesla. If that is crucial to your enjoyment of the Mach-E, you should just sell it now and be done.

Edit - I'm 2.5 years in with a Mach-E, and 8 months with a Lightning. Ford's software issues are exactly as I expected, as a previous Ford owner. They'll promise a feature, then miss delivery dates by many months, or even close to a year (Blue Cruise for 2021s). Communication isn't clear, or timely, or even in existence at times where it would be easy to communicate, it's like the don't communicate because of potential legal issues being open and honest may create.

That said, many people want their to be CHOICE, and for one company to not dominate the sector. So, we put up with the challenges and push Ford and the dealerships to do better so that in the future there are plenty of choices for consumers.

You're stuck in the 4.X's PU's there's nothing but an uphill battle if you want more.
Or you just lower your expectations, then lower it again. I'm almost certain Ford is trying to make us not like this car with some of the things that have gone on.

With the latest RFA update and an iPhone, PAAK is very reliable.

Before my wife got a Tesla I assumed the technical aspect of dealing with all the different types of phones made PAAK hard to make reliable. Tesla has proved it is possible. I hope the Ford developers can dig into how they accomplish this. However, I have noticed Tesla has the same issue with the back pocket at times. Typically when walking up to the car to open just the truck do I have to turn around since my phone is in my back pocket. I am curious if its the antenna placement.
With that said Ford has created a much more full proof experience. Dead phone or not you can access your car with the pillar keypad and you always have the remote start passcode so technically makes it very difficult to get stranded which I appreciate.
