I think those two recent accidents put the update on a little hold. to see if it needs a few changes.
Same thoughts with those recent accidents - sure Ford is thinking "this sounds like Tesla's FSD..."

Shouldn’t a public company like Ford be more open about software releases, delays, publish some sort of roadmap, etc.?
No, what gave you that idea?

Public companies exist to increase shareholder value. The management decides how to increase shareholder value. If management believes there should be little comms, so it goes, unless the board picks a fight and fires management over that particular issue (or threatens to).

Reporting laws exist, but they basically say:
1) report your financials and report them correctly,
2) some information must be public only - don't tell just fat cat investors
3) don't lie in your disclosures

For non-financial information, the best way to avoid legal jeopardy is to say *nothing*. Same with corporations, same with people, same reason.

Nope. Didn’t realize that was the definition but do note and edited that first part. That’s weird business terminology that I didn’t realize. They may be publicly-traded but they are owned by the stockholders. They are not a public entity but a private entity. Only a lawyer could come up with such strange definitions.
I think you're getting hung up on the words public and private. You can't switch from company to entity and change that.

A sole proprietorship or partnership is a private entity.

A corporation without public shareholders is a private entity.

A non-profit can be a private entity.

Once stock is sold to external investors on the markets, then the company is clearly a public company. Public companies have many more reporting requirements than private companies as regarding their financial status, and requirements that if they disclose something to a person or group, that information may need to be disclosed to everyone. That's why a person like Elon Musk gets in trouble all the time by making statements publicly, about his public companies, that aren't true (taking Tesla private for one example), which is a violation of law.

So, if the CEO of Ford told you or I a material thing, like "we're not going to make another EV for 6 years", and didn't disclose that publicly, he'd be in hot water.

There is NOTHING stopping Ford from having a broader discourse with people who own their automobiles, except the fear/concern that a misstatement could open them up for legal actions. They need to loosen that up greatly and communicate, carefully, about many more things and much more often IMO and the opinions of others.

There are people on this and other forums that seem to get information from Ford employees that the rest of us don't get. That kind of BS needs to stop, i.e. "please tell the forum members that ____, without saying how you got that info".

Summer arrives on June 20th, a mere 58 days from now. BC update was announced for summer 2023. Summer came and went, fall came and went, winter came and went. Spring is now here.
Update? Yes, of course. To version 1.4? Don’t be silly. :p

The reason for the delay is that Ford realized that BC should've been counting down and they've been counting up. They're trying to figure out how to release smaller version numbers until they hit 0 and can start counting up again with AD. The biggest problem is that there is no 0 BC/AD and that's stumping the team. ?

So you’d rather us keep that information to ourselves?

I guess I'm an eternal optimist because I think they might just officially start the BC 1.4 rollout before summer 2024 arrives. Only 58 more days (at most) until I find out if my optimism was warranted. :)

Just because its stock is publicly traded doesn't mean the public is owed an access to such inner workings. Yes, it would be nice but what you are asking for is VERY rare.
I get it. From a software perspective, it is easier to convince someone to pay for your app/service when you show what you offer + what you plan to offer "soon" + your vision (stuff you want to offer but do not have plans to start just now, usually 1 year from now). I think Ford and all other EV manufacturers should start doing the same with their EVs.

@bbulkow , this is what I had in mind. Legally, public companies do not have to share their long-term plans, but it helps to attract investors and build/keep trust.

Of course not but I would rather see Ford be transparent to all instead of some maybe true leaks. We are talking software now not a car and Ford could learn from others that service hardware instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. The lack of transparency and being ignored accompanied but the wait for parts if you are not one of the chosen few is the main reason this will be my first and last Ford. Love EV tech Fords at this point not the best.

For me I would like the CSP 23B50 (melting of the charging port) at some point OTA so I do not need to go in AGAIN. Got snail mail info in October 2023 but still waiting for it to come OTA. Guess what no ETA or further info on that either.

Pretty sure there are a whole lot of cars in the same boat as mine. As far a Ford mapping the world good luck with that not like Google does not have a head start on them. I know I got the tesla update but not the CSP. Charging at super chargers must be a priority over it catching on fire.

my 3 year bluecruise subscription ends in late May of 2025 so it won't update to 1.4 until shortly after that. :crying:
