Thank goodness someone has a more ridiculous fee than Georgia. My Mach e GT was $210.87 last year. I think they give you an odd number like that to make you think they are really calculating something. Being retired and driving less than 5000 miles per year the fee is more than 3x what the gas tax would cost.
This comes up every once in a while. My memory is that you get hit the worst if you're in Seattle.

In Mississippi, you don’t pay the tax at the dealer when they give you the price out the door it’s that $600 dock fee or whatever it is and you pay the $1500 shipping from Michigan to Mississippi which I don’t understand that at all why that is passed on to us, but you pay your sales tax and your tag and everything DMV. Carvana is bad about doing that, two cars from Carvana both mustangs, and they always charge you the sales tax, the title tag and all that and then they turn around and send you a check for $2000 because they weren’t supposed to do that which kind of sucks, then you go down and pay at the DMV
I loved it back in the 60s when we lived in Illinois. We used to drive to Kenosha Wisconsin where the rambler factory was and my dad would sit there and order which one he wanted and paid his $1300 for a brand new car. We watched it being built they took it out for about a 15 mile test ride and hand you the keys lol not anymore. Can you even go inside a a plant without a security clearance?My registration slip says the fee total was $788 back in November. No clue as to the breakdown since I have to pay the entire amount regardless in order to get the new sticker. ?
When I lived in North Carolina for 30 years, I used to think it was the highest priced tag fee you could pay then I move down to Mississippi insurance went up tag fee went up. It was ridiculous.
You’re lucky. The only thing I got on my side is Mississippi doesn’t tax retired military so that’s a chunk of change I don’t have to worry about , that’s why I may not even have to file anything next year, federal or state lol
Well, they got rid of the sticker, but not the inspection (although new cars are exempt from safety inspection for first 3 years). Several counties require emissions check as well (via OBD connection to check for trouble codes) at additional cost. Safety inspection is around $15, full inspection is around $30. You can't renew registration if you haven't gotten the inspection.
