The Ford Family has controlling votes in the corporation. I think that's an unlikely scenario. Then again, who would have thought that Boeing would buy McDonell-Douglas, allow MD to run the combined company, and destroy the Commercial Airplane division's reputation?
Ahhh... so THAT"S what happened there? I was wondering...

Yeah the old joke was that McDonnell Douglas bought Boeing with Boeing’s money. Turns out it wasn’t much of a joke. The merger conditions required that no MD executive could be fired, made redundant, etc, after the merger and that the next Boeing head had to be a MD executive before the merger. It’s been downhill since (personal opinion obviously).

Until I know for sure "talent" is not referring to the janitorial staff (Rivian's is the stuff of legend), I'm not getting too excited.

....I should probably read the article huh ??

I’m very curious what will happen if Elon doesn’t get his pay package. I’ll have my popcorn ready.
If the bird website is too be believed, allegedly the yays currently outweigh the nays. Also, I can't understand why the SEC isn't all over the bird website posts that are revealing the vote before the shareholder meeting.

It would not surprise me if Ford eventually bought or merged with Tesla. But Elon could not be part of any such deal.
It would be a surprise, but also Ford is the most likely of western manufacturers to do it.
More likely than this, however, I expect an eventual JV or acquisition to be with a Chinese manufacturer.

It would be a surprise if it happened in the very near future. But give Elon some time to tank Tesla………Then it would be a natural progression.

I am still dumbfounded that Tesla shelved the reportedly production-ready Model 2. Hopefully Ford's startup will put all this new talent to good use. I think a sub $35K BEV could be huge success.

The homely, oft-recalled, and obsolete Bolt nonetheless sold like hotcakes late in its life because it was accessible to average buyers looking for a competent commuter vehicle.
two words - Factory Capacity.

You can hire all the great talent, but if you have legal and/or upper management killing or severely limiting the ideas it still doesn't get you anywhere.

Pay or no pay package Elon is a liability for Tesla...
(AI company? they can't make rain sensing wipers work)
(Robo taxi? you can not be serious... Is Uber displacing car ownership... no)

Ford is hiring great talent... while Kia/Hyundai are rolling out great EVs. I hope Ford pushes some new EV products out soon.

Seeing the acres of unsold Models 3 and Y piling up I think they could have spared some capacity.
those 3's and Y's have margin. the "2" would have very little margin... why would you dedicate capital (cash, and production capacity) to low or zero margin products... it is the classic problem that customers and media types want cheap cars... car companies can't make money on EVs that cost less than ~40K... outside of Chinese production.
