Don’t expect ford to own up to their mistakes.

So I unfortunately have the 1-pedal drive fault caused by the recall software update. The geniuses at ford published the fix as a TSB instead of a recall.
@Ford Motor Company states that they would pay for the repair but will absolutely not cover diagnostic fees.

This leaves me on the hook as best case scenario to pay $260 to get 1-pedal driving working properly again after ford admits that they caused the problem. Absolutely ridiculous. Might as well turn off OTA updates because ford will leave you hanging if they screw up your vehicle.

Do you have a regular service advisor? I’ll occasionally but then a Starbucks gift card or Panera etc. I had a few fees “waived” mysteriously. Just a thought

If the vehicle is within the 3/36 warranty the diagnostic should be covered. That's incorrect information if they told you otherwise.
Unfortunately I commute with this vehicle so it is no longer under warranty. The service advisor refused to tell me if the module that needs to be reprogrammed would be covered under the high voltage warranty without paying the diag fee.

If it’s covered under warranty the diagnostics fee… just wait until you get 3-5 items, all software related and they want to charge you the Diagnostic Fee for each one

Dealers aren’t Ford. Dealers are their own highly protected anti consumer class. They can do pretty much anything without much worrying retaliation by Ford. It’s not surprising your dealer wants money to tell you what you already know.

I seem to recall some debate on this one a while back. Those off us that were for turning off OTAs after warranty period were basically called idiots because we were told, "Of COURSE Ford won't charge you for fixing an OTA problem!"

I could have made easy money on that bet...

I think they way it will actually work is you need to agree to pay the diagnostic fee upfront, because if the diagnosis reveals the problem is not related to the TSB, they are not going to do a diagnosis for free.
But, if they perform the diagnosis and find the fault is related to the TSB, they will perform the TSB and then you should not have to pay the diagnostic fee.
Nope, ford itself (not the dealer) told me best case scenario they will absolutely not cover diagnostic fees even if they cause the issue. Tsb has no coverage basis, it’s just guidance for mechanics. Which is why ford is messed up for having issued a tsb instead of a CSP.

Yep, an I understand that. Except charging me that much to just punch my vin into a computer system and checking the faults is ridiculous. Ford has admitted that their recall has caused this problem yet even if it was confirmed to be the case they would only cover the work not the diag. Even extended warranties cover the diag fee for the most part ?

so the answer then, turn off the upates, so you don't get OTAs and you also don't get updates at the dealer? That doesn't sound like that great of an idea.

Bribes! What a great idea! What other broken-country customs can we bring to North America?

@Ford Motor Company seems to be the #1 salesman for Tesla

Ummm... really? Have bribes been unknown in North America? Ever hear about the Teapot Dome scandal? Or all the Prohibition-era beer wars in Chicago? or former Congressmen like Messrs. Traficant or Livingston?

Have you contacted BEV team or any other Ford customer service team to raise a case?

In general, TSBs are not covered after warranty. Both diagnostic fee, and fix.
