I'm looking for a bit of help with a decision. In May I ordered a 24 MME GT without the glass roof. I've had past cars with glass in the roof, but grew tired of leaks and rust. I'm also not too fond of having glass over my head if I wind up in an accident where more broken glass could be created and the structural component of the passenger cage that ought to be there isn't.

Five months in and Ford hasn't seen fit to schedule the car for production. I think it may be my selection of the steel roof, but can't get a confirmation on this. Well, I can't other than there seem to be GTs in the wild for sale and all of them have glass roofs.

There have been random posts about seals cracking, minor leaks, and chips and other damage to the roof along with the very steep cost of replacement...which only fuels my opinion on this topic. But I want one of these cars now too!

I'd be interested in hearing from you folks. How bad is it really?

I love my glass roof! It was a big selling point for me.

That said, I haven't personally experienced any issues with mine (knock on wood).

If I were to eventually experience problems like cracks, chips, leaks etc., I might have second thoughts about buying another vehicle with a glass roof.

FWIW, very few complaints about the Mach-E have to do with it's glass roof. At least, from what I've seen.

Two years with no issues. I can't see out the roof due to my driving position but my wife loves it. Passengers we've had also like it. It's kept in the garage when not driven so no issues with chips of leaks.

If you like glass roofs get one with it - if you don’t then wait. I own a 22GT with a metal roof and chose it as I did not want BC and I felt it would be better for Alaskan winter. Of course there have been issues with the glass tops but the vast majority like them and they appear to work well in most climates.

I like the glass roof (3+ years now), but as has been mentioned it's not really that big of a deal for the driver. I've only sat in the back seat of my car a few times, and was amazed at how cool it was - after countless hours of not noticing it in the driver's seat.

As it is one solid piece with no moving parts (like a sun roof), I'd think the only real issues would revolve around it cracking OR there being a seal issue around the edges. My '21 has had a recall out (for years now) to bring it in to reseal both the windshield and the glass roof -- so that indicates to me that there WERE issues (or at least a good enough chance there could be issues). That said, my dealer sucks and despite being the first one on "the list" to get it done, here I am a few years later with that bulletin still outstanding....I've, however, had no issues.

I'd choose glass if I had to choose again, even though I don't think it's that big of a deal (if you're the primary driver).

I love the pano roof.

Glass don’t rust.

Am not planning on having an accident at all and certainly not where the roof will present a problem. It’s laminated anyway so there’s structure in the glass roof.

It's really a personal preference. I have a glass roof, but I just don't notice that it's there. I notice if I'm sitting in the back seat, but I never sit in the back seat. There have been a few threads about people getting cracks, and in a couple examples, it seemed like they were stress cracks, not from an impact or anything. I guess I would forego a glass roof next time...

44 months with my glass roof mach -e. More headroom, no leaks. The glass is part of the rollover protection and shouldn’t shatter. It’s also Infrared resistant. I love the thing. But again, it’s your car. If having the glass roof is going to make you worry or second guess, pass on it and wait on the metal roof.

I like it but to be honest I hardly ever even notice it, if it saves money I'd probably opt for no glass roof.

no issues, kids love it, I don't notice it other than car washes in recline. Does not appear to heat the car up in the summer as I initially thought it would.

I hate it. I don't know which dumb ass Junior VP at Ford decided to make it mandatory but it is awful. A black interior with a glass roof...GTFO here Ford.

Two years and two chips leading to cracks . One replacement took 8 weeks due to parts availability and the other was smoother but still a pain finding a place to do it well. I never noticed it , so this is the one option I’d never get again.

My glass roof was cracked by a stone. Over $3,000 (Canadian $) to replace and insurance only pays maximum of $2,100. If I had a choice I would never have another one. In my opinion the driver and passenger don’t benefit visually from the glass roof. Only rear seat passengers do. If you go with the glass definitely put 3m on it.
