NJ didn't do that retroactively. Unless I misunderstood, if you took delivery before the change was made, you still get the credit.
True, but it's still screwing people up, like a change to the federal one (unlikely as it is to happen) would. I'm guessing many of the NJ buyers that have gotten so emotionally invested in buying a Mach-E will bite the bullet on the $5k and buy it anyway, thus incurred the $5000 cost. Same could be the case for some that lost all or part of the $7500 federal credit.

I get your point though.
Right, but they ANNOUNCED they were canceling the program THE DAY BEFORE it was terminated. I had registered for notifications from the NJBPU and got the email at 3:51 PM on Dec 14th. There was no way anyone could replan or otherwise adjust what they wanted to do prior to the program being ended. While technically not retroactive, it was close to it.

The Fed won't do the same thing because they can just print/borrow more money, unlike NJ.

Susan and me at the end of the assembly line where the Thunderbirds were "born."
I always like the folks at Wixom Assembly. It's a General RV and a Menard's now.

Just curious, how did you score the invite?

I think negative changes to the tax law are not generally applied retroactively because the government doesn’t want to pull the rug out from people. I think positive changes to tax laws sometimes are applied retroactively, like tax cuts where you might find out mid year that your taxes for the whole year will be lower.

But practically speaking, given the results of the most recent federal election, this time next year you are much more likely to be saying something like “if only I took delivery just a month later, my tax credit would have been so much bigger” as opposed to “I can’t believe they lowered the tax credit I was going to get after I already bought and took delivery of my car”.
Of course anything is possible. However, no one has proposed such a thing yet. If you read the speeches and platform proposals from the Biden/Pelosi camp, what IS being talked about is letting people with less than $7500 in taxes take the entire tax credit anyway, acting more like a rebate than a tax credit. I have tried to help people with this information. If they really think the best idea is to let the Federal gov't keep $500 per month of their money for a year instead of helping them with food and rent, well, as Ron White said, "you can't fix stupid". I apologize if people are offended by this comment, but I have met some extremely intelligent people on this forum when it comes to cars and technology, only to find out that they would prefer to do without $500 per month - on purpose. (sigh) I know a lot of people who also postpone retirement planning for a decade or two, but that doesn't make it a smart decision. Of course, in my case, I have an EV already, what do I need with a $45,000 Mustang Mach E? Not the smartest financial decision I have ever made! OK, guys, I have just invalidated my own credibility. Go ahead and jump in if you like!!!

I know this got buried after the delay news but I sent an email to my dealer last night after seeing the front license plate bracket already on a Mach-E being transported. Have told them I do not want the bracket on mine. Since my car hasn't been built yet to let Ford know it. They'll see if they can get that confirmed and get back to me.

Hoping the delay is for Ford optics and not a real issue. Still sucks for those of you who were so close to getting them delivered.

How do you plan to drive your MME in New York State without a front license plate? Or you just want to figure out the attachment method yourself?

My sticker has "FRONT LICENSE PLATE BRACKET NO CHARGE" listed in the optional equipment section. Since its required where I live, it doesn't matter to me whether they put it on at the factory or dealership. If you're buying from a dealer in a state that doesn't require front plates, then agreed -- they should not be putting the bracket on at the factory for those cars.

For the Michigan buyers, does your window sticker say front license plate bracket too?

In terms of what better tax policy would be, you're right. Much better to not tax people as much to begin with, and let them keep more of their own money to spend in the economy as they see best fit.

Unfortunately we often see the opposite agenda implemented.

Did the same thing! I was told it was an option and that mine was ordered without it. He checked to be sure. I think I have mentioned it enough to him so I am just trusting it will be left off at this point.

It was a lot different then in that Ford really wanted to make the experience of owning the new Thunderbird special (it cost $40,000 in 2002 so it would be a lot more in today's dollars). As a result of this, my wife and I took a one-on-one tour of the assembly plant with Dave Davis and it was spectacular. I was able to go right up to the assembly line and talk to workers and I actually got a V-8 badge that they put on the 2003 Thunderbirds (2002 didn't have them). I'll never forget it and the best part was at the end when they put gas in the cars and started them up for the first time (they were "born!"). Later, we took the same tour with a group of my fellow Thunderbird owners (Thunderbirdnest.com) and the entire group had a good time but didn't have the individualized experience my wife and I had. Wish Ford could have a virtual tour of Cuautitlan Plant using Zoom or something like that.
