Well, it's a very large complex with 1700 apartments in 4 buildings so it has that ability. Only 1 in 4 apartments have parking. There is a wait list.

That is a wonderful solution. Too bad the apartment complex couldn't do it on it's own and figure out a way to make a few bucks along the way!!! Capitalism is always better than Gov't running thew show. Who's in charge of maintenance?

Crazy, but my apartment building just activated a little over 100 chargers; every parking spot has one! They were installed over the summer, but it took months to get them all tested and turned on. A great holiday present. Noticed several people have gotten EV's as a result. (3 tesla 's, one polestar and my mach e)

Congrats! This is huge! We have 6 and every Tesla thinks it's their personal parking spot. This should definitely help.

Only 1 in 4 apartments have a designated/reserved parking spot? Is this Section 8 housing? Do people really have entire households without a car or truck? This is bizarre to me. Also, $10k per charger?

We had to fight a shitty HOA for several years before putting one lowly Tesla universal charger for use by ALL residents.

We currently have 7 EVs out of ~180 cars in the garage. You can reserve the charger and pay through the Tesla app.

The cost per kWh is obscene at 40 cents. My electricity costs me 8-9 cents delivered and taxed. So 5x the cost.

I lined up quotes from a bunch of contractors and found the cheapest to be around $4,500 to scan / core the concrete, install a breaker, and run 30’ of wire and conduit. They ended up going with their “preferred” and paid twice as much. The morons also installed under spec-ed breaker and wire, so under-rated the EVSE by 20%. They also failed to claim a ComEd rebate that reimburses most of the cost. Dumb as fuck.

The above and other bad decisions they made enabled me to do a coup and kick 5 out of 7, with the other 2 planned to be kicked off the board by Sept 25.

But we are selling and moving on. I continue to be shocked at how financially illiterate people are. Plus, it’s a very poor financial decision to live in a high rise. If only I knew then what I know now. Live and learn, I guess.

There are cities in the world that have things called public transit and people who don’t own cars.

It depends on where you live. We live in the middle of downtown Chicago and there’s no practical reason to own a car. Most of my neighbors don’t or have one and never use it.

We average 4-5k miles a year with two adults sharing one. That includes “road trips”.

Local ordinances dictate the min # of spots per dwelling unit. 25% seems on the low side. I think it’s just under 40% for us.

The building is just the recipient of the gift. Either EVgo or the electric company is maintaining them. It's a little weird to me as if they were going to place 100 chargers, I would think they would put them where anyone could have access. My guess is knowing the beauts, they had to spend the money or lose it, so this was an easy solution. I know smite biltong that also got chargers for each of their parking spots. Presently 95 of the spots are iced with ICE vehicles. Seems like a waste when they could have been put to more general use. It does encourage tenants to get an EV though.

This is NYC where most people don't want a car (and rent them when they need one).

They're EVgo chargers. You pay like you would anywhere else. Our building got a 1.1 million dollar grant from the electric company for this project. The building doesn't profit except for having cleaner air!
So separate from your condo’s electric bill? Is the rate the same as the residential rate if it is separate?

The building is not involved. It's with EVgo. The electric company gave my building a gift
