I don't need to replace it now, it runs fine at 426,000. I really have no commute now and a bunch of other cars to drive. I'm set until I go tits up.
So, in fact, you are no longer on the market for any EV?

So why the ongoing scrutiny of a vehicle you have no interest in?

It appears Efthreeoh has left the building and has taken his posts with him.

I agreed somethings needs to be done about the 12v as I have had mine fail. It was no warning. Car started just fine. Got to my daughter’s day care and boom zero power when I turned the car off. I noticed when I tried to get back into the car.

some changes is

1) a way to get into the car with zero power and say just a key.

2) a way to manually connect with a button the HVB to the DC-DC converter to power the 12v rail to start the car. It gives an emergency override back up but something that should not be used to often.

lastly. Make the 12v a hell of a lot easier to replace and not require taking apart the entire frunk to do it.
This just happened to me on my 2021 job 1 FE car which was just returned to me a week ago Thursday after 7 weeks at dealer service center.

I got an alarm triggered notification while we were away. Car was in my garage. Got home within a few minutes and I cannot unlock to open the car with key fob or FordPass app. Rear lights flash but hatch will not open. Assume it’s related to 12v battery.

can anyone provide guidance on how to open/get into car? It’s Saturday night, do I wait to Monday and contact dealer? (I have extended warranty).

Any specific reason you went with the 6v-20v 1.5mA (Amazon has listed as for lithium batteries) vs the 8v-16v 1mA listed for “Modern” batteries?

Finally getting around to ordering one of these things.

Honestly, I have purchased them 4 times and never noticed the difference. I assumed a voltmeter was a voltmeter regardless of the battery chemistry. So really don't get the difference? ?

From what I understand keep trying to lock/unlock, flash the lights, etc. until you can fully kill the 12 V battery. Then you can use the leads behind the front bumper cover to open the frunk to replace the battery. Check but I doubt the battery is covered by extended service plan.

Two major errors in that video that will cause hardship:
  • If the 12V battery dies, the doors will not open if they are locked. Only if they were left unlocked. (Lock state cannot change without 12V power.)
  • In most cases, the jump leads will need to be used to gain entry before 48 hours have passed.
The video is only applicable if you left the car unlocked when the 12V battery died.

Also:
  • If the 12V battery is dead, it needs to be jumped, not charged. Charging it will not work unless you disconnect the battery from the car first. There is too much inrush current and the car will boot loop on a charger.

Ford isn't the only manufacturer with poor 12v LVB management/ behavior. This anecdote about an Ionic shows they all just can't seem to handle it well.

https://www.torquenews.com/1/okay-l...my-fellow-ioniq-5-owners-when-you-ask-hyundai

It was pretty interesting and sad how completely nonfunctional the car is without the 12V battery. In a gas car, once you got the car jump-started, the alternator would provide power and you could at least drive to the nearest place to get service. In the Ioniq 5 with 72% propulsion battery but a dead 12V, the hazard lights didn’t work, the doors wouldn’t lock or unlock, nothing worked at all.

Four years old in February. 12v is still going strong in Maryland.
