MachE Select
Hello,

I recently purchased a 2021 Mach-E imported from the US to Israel. Although the vehicle’s status indicates it’s up to date, it appears I’m running older software. (I'm only connected by WIFI).

I have an appointment at the dealership next week and hope they can help me install the relevant software updates.

I’m a bit confused regarding the different updates and what they mean. Could someone please clarify which updates I should install? Do I need all of them? Must they be installed one at a time, or is there a recommended sequence?

My VIN: 3FMTK1SS1MMA49671

Thank you in advance!

The updates download over the cellular connection. I am not sure which service is used in Israel, but the car should have an AT&T cellular module in it. You will likely need a cellular module That is for the service that is used by Ford in Israel and your car will need to be reprovisioned for your country in order to receive OTA updates. There may be other local software packages that your car will need. ??

Would running my VIN give any insight into why my FordPass app stopped starting climate, setting departure times, and just about everything else stopped working? I’m on an iPhone. Started about a week ago

You do have a BCM DTC for "Electrical System High Key Off Load".

Don't know if you've left something plugged in....

Might be a good time to disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal for 5 minutes to see if that clears things up.

I don't show a health report for the 5th. 12V battery was last reported at 79% SOC.

But yesterday you got a BECM DTC P2C85:1E (Circuit Resistance out of range)

Diagnostics suggests this as possible causes:
DC fast charge station
Water intrusion in the DC fast charge to high voltage battery connector
Water intrusion in the high-voltage in the vehicle charge port terminals
Vehicle charge port and cable assembly

@Orb7

Hopefully, whoever imported this car took it to a Ford dealer and had the TCU 'provisioned' to work with a cell provider that Ford has contracted with there in Israel.

I see that it's not actually reporting anything to the cloud right now, and it's possible that it's due to the ownership change.

First thing to do is go into the Sync menu settings and look for a Master Reset or Factory Reset option, and select that. This will require re-setting up Ford Pass and home location, charging schedule etc. but it's a necessary step if the old owner's settings were never cleared out when they sold the car.

Nothing was left plugged in accessory wise. The 12V is still charged as I’m able to get in and accessory mode starts up. Do I need to do anything special to disconnect the negative terminal? Just like doing it on a non-EV? I already have the panels pulled because I thought it may be the 12V.

Thank you, After I posted this I got the electrical system drain message. I have an OBD adapter plugged in for my dash cam set to turn off in 10 minutes. It hasn‘t caused a problem for the past few months but now it’s extremely cold so I don’t know if that‘s a factor. Anyway, I have pulled the adapter and have been running the car with everything off for the last several hours so we will see what happens. When it warms up a little here I’ll pull the 12v negative.

Thanks again for your help.

10mm socket or wrench. That's it.

Thanks. I had it towed to the local Ford dealership to have it looked at and am calling them first thing this morning. Attempted to contact the Ford BEV Team, but have been unsuccessful.

6 June 2023 according to FDRS.

It would be desirable to have those updates applied. Just to bring your car current.

But dealer techs have been told that software updates will be pushed as OTAs (whenever they get around to doing that) and they will only get paid to perform updates (using FDRS) that are required by a repair procedure or in response to a 'concern' raised by the owner about something not working correctly.

It's about justifying the labor cost to Ford for the repair. Ford wants a record of everything that was done, and if something that was done that wasn't part of what the car was in the shop for, then it's likely the labor may not get paid under warranty.

My dealership's techs get $200 an hour. So I do my own updates.
Thanks Mike Can I do my own upodates or do I need an FDRS account to do so? What is the costs to have an FDRS account? Cheers Murray

The FDRS license is pretty reasonable. You can get a 2 day license for $50. It’s the investment in the support equipment that’s a little stiff. You need a USB to OBD-2 cable compatible with Fords (apx. $550), a 12V regulated power supply capable of sustaining 50A for several hours (a charger will not do, you need a regulated supply, apx. $300-$550), an external USB drive (I use an M.2 SSD in a USB 3.2 case, $45) and a variety of extension cords. This assumes that you have a Windows 10 or 11 laptop. ??

Wow that is far too technical for this almost retired CPA. Also USD$1000 or so is more than I am prepared to invest. I will talk to my dealer about the updates needed. Thanks for the info Steve, Cheers Murray

Murray, I spent 6+ hours helping another forum member do most of the updates on his car last week. He decided to leave before we were finished with all available images. Anyhow, at shop rates, those updates would cost you more than the investment in hardware, just for one update session. Your dealer would need specific issues to correct in order to be able to bill Ford for warranty work. Just a little food for thought. ??

Understood Steve and thanks for your response. I thought the car should have been up to date at the time it was delivered to me. I will contact the dealer and see what needs to be done at no cost to me. The car seems to be running fine as it is. Cheers Murray
