The updates download over the cellular connection. I am not sure which service is used in Israel, but the car should have an AT&T cellular module in it. You will likely need a cellular module That is for the service that is used by Ford in Israel and your car will need to be reprovisioned for your country in order to receive OTA updates. There may be other local software packages that your car will need. ??
@Orb7
Hopefully, whoever imported this car took it to a Ford dealer and had the TCU 'provisioned' to work with a cell provider that Ford has contracted with there in Israel.

I see that it's not actually reporting anything to the cloud right now, and it's possible that it's due to the ownership change.

First thing to do is go into the Sync menu settings and look for a Master Reset or Factory Reset option, and select that. This will require re-setting up Ford Pass and home location, charging schedule etc. but it's a necessary step if the old owner's settings were never cleared out when they sold the car.
Thanks for looking into this. I already performed a master reset when I received the vehicle.
From my understanding, the vehicle has an AT&T module, and I’m not sure if there’s an alternative here since the car isn’t officially sold by Ford Israel (navigation and FordPass aren’t working either).

I assumed I could get updates via Wi-Fi, but I haven’t received any so far.
I already visited the local dealer for a recall and scheduled a system update through FDRS. I’m hoping they’ll be able to do it.

@Mike G Is there nothing shown under SW updates? I assume that once the dealer connects directly, they’ll be able to see all the relevant updates. Should I request anything specific?

So the TCU modem isn't necessarily AT&T only. Think of it like you would a cell phone you can take from country to country (with some exceptions). It is designed to work in multiple countries by being 'provisioned' for whatever market it's sold in. Not that you can't change that, but it's subject to the limitations of whether Ford has a contract with a carrier in the country the car is in.

There are US service members who have taken or actually purchased their US market Fords and are operating them in Germany as an example. So how that's done would be getting the local Ford dealer there in Germany to provision the modem to work in Germany (I believe the carrier is Vodaphone, which is a partner of AT&T). Once they do that the vehicle can send status reports to the cloud and receive updates. When they rotate back home to the US with their vehicle, they show up at a Ford dealer and have them re-provision the TCU (back to AT&T).

So if other Fords are sold in Israel (I have no doubt they are) and if they also use TCUs to report their health status and download maps and updates, then it should only take getting the TCU provisioned for whatever carrier Ford uses there in Israel, and if that's not possible with that TCU, (due to specific radio bands or something else) then it's possible there is a Ford OEM replacement TCU that would work and could be ordered and installed.

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2021 Mach-E imported from the US to Israel. Although the vehicle’s status indicates it’s up to date, it appears I’m running older software. (I'm only connected by WIFI).

I have an appointment at the dealership next week and hope they can help me install the relevant software updates.

I’m a bit confused regarding the different updates and what they mean. Could someone please clarify which updates I should install? Do I need all of them? Must they be installed one at a time, or is there a recommended sequence?

My VIN: 3FMTK1SS1MMA49671

Thank you in advance!
I talked about the TCU provisioning at length and didn't mention your available update list.

This car has been out of contact so long that there are a shed-load of updates that it's missed.

Whoever your tech is, make sure they start with every one of the updates in the note at the bottom of the available software list (Additional Updates) before doing anything else. This is to avoid any software dependency issues later on. Those updates listed in the note at the bottom will take about a day all by themselves, assuming a good steady internet connection and a 64GB USB 3.1/3.2 thumb drive.

2024 Mach-E Rally
I just picked up this Rally last month. The more I've been looking into it and reading it seems I might be missing quite a few updates. I'm missing the public charging app on the infotainment screen. My trip screen is missing the updated triangle graphics I've been seeing on others for the top header. I don't think my phone as a key can be set to unlock all doors, and I'm missing the climate controls from the FordPass app. Would someone be able to take a look by chance? If there are a bunch to fix I might just do it my self instead of asking the dealership.

Thank you

We have most of Ford’s other models here, but unfortunately, as far as I know, Ford Israel doesn’t support OTA updates yet. Many companies, like Tesla, Toyota, and even BYD, do offer OTA, but for some reason, Ford is lagging behind.

I’m also having an issue with the radio (missing even frequencies like 90.0, 90.2, etc.), and the dealer mentioned a software update might fix that.

Let me see if I understood correctly:
  1. Install the GWM update first.
  2. After that, the 13 updates on the list will become available—install those.
  3. Finally, install all the remaining updates (order doesn’t matter).
Is that correct?

I’m also guessing there’s a specific sequence for those 13 updates, since some share the same names (GWM, TCU, APIM).

Once again, thanks for looking into this and explaining everything!

Hi Mike, best wishes of course.
Would you be able to check : WF0TK1E79MMA16117 feels like it is stuck again as I have not had an OTA or power up since a year I think, and see friends around me going to 6.14 here in EU.

Thanks a million,
Dirk

In the list provided....there is a sequence noted in the Additional Updates section. Follow that sequence (it will update as you perform each one so just do whatever the first one is that it says to do next). The Additional Notes section is showing you what's "behind the curtain" and what to expect after updating those USB-based items in the list above (GWM, APIM, TCU, IPC). So yes, do all of those first in the sequence indicated and after doing all of those then the tech can jump in to things like the Cruise Control related updates (also a specific sequence CCM, SCCM, CMR, IPMA/PSCM).

Things like the door modules, and HVAC, and BCM, and RFA can be done pretty much whenever.

The last reported 12V battery SOC was 60%....not sure when that was exactly though, due to this:

Your car received an activation trigger for a gateway update (OTA ECG-24.2.4.10) back on the 2nd of January, that it has not applied yet. That trigger expires on the 16th of Jan. You should go out to the car and while on a drive select the Check Updates button at a stoplight or when you're parked after driving for a few minutes to recharge the 12V battery, and then see if it will let you "Update Now" when you park. It's not a very large update data-wise. And is not an update that is an "inhibit" update.

You do also have some updates indicated in FDRS that would follow-on after the gateway OTA (eventually, not sure when) for the APIM (Sync) and then the TCU.

Owing to the updates performed previously by a tech using FDRS you won't be seeing much in the way of OTAs when you hit the Check Updates menu item in Sync.

You had lots of updates done on the 4th of July 24, and then more on the 18th of September 24.

Here's the list of what's available for your car today in FDRS:

It's just a subset of the recently released powertrtain updates.

Your 12V battery is reporting a 70% SOC (as of the last time the car reported in).

Your Sync version is v4.0.23291, which is a little behind but not by much.

There's a program called FORSCAN that can be used to tweak asbuilt settings for things like this. It's likely your car's radio (ACM module) was set to US band standards and it might simply need to have the regional settings changed to Israel (change country code in other words). I have no experience doing this personally, but I'm pretty sure it's possible and may only take a few minutes.

Here's an example of the asbuilt value selections for the ACM module to give you an idea:
