I had a minor accident where someone backed onto my MachE. Only visible damage was to license plate holder and the front right panel popped out from headlights housing. The panels and hood were not damaged. The estimate is over $6000!

get a second estimate but lots of things underneath that could have been potentially damaged so it's really hard to say

In all cases, get an itemized quote.

Lots of sensors in that area. I had a minor bump in that area and it was a $1200 repair. The sensor and the little motor that controls the adjustable radiator grill was damaged. I was so pissed.

My other thought, how do we know some sensor really needs to be replaced or could they be pulling a good part to replace it to get the markup and hours? Worse case, they pull it and put it back in.

that's why it's a good idea to get a few quotes tho it's a hassle.

I got showered in glass.

Picked the car up Monday, it is almost fixed, still waiting on a new passenger side headlight, two arrived but both were broken and are now on back order so they put Clifford back together with the cosmetically damaged headlight.

Total cost to repair: $20,197.51.

Before the repair, if you were 20 feet from my car you would not notice anything was wrong. 10 feet away you would start to notice something was not right, 5 feet away and you would see the damage done by the 10,000s of thousands of glass shards.

Parts are stupid expensive but I don't think that is a unique problem to the MME.

In my case $9212.50 in parts. Nothing was truly broken except the windshield, everything else was just a plastic part with tons of glass shards imbedded. Fully functional still, just cosmetically ruined.

I wonder why they didn’t total it? Seems the market value wouldn’t be too far beyond this price

I'm glad they didn't.

Might be because the cost of repair just kept growing. Initial estimate as $6200 or so. Then the supplemental payments started once they started work.

Payments were:
6148.94 - Initial repair
2214.00 - Diminished value
10974.96 - Started work
2631.51 - Another supplement
442.10 - Another supplement

The OP might find the same as his $6000 estimate grows.

They play the safety propaganda card! Sometimes correctly but very often incorrectly because they don’t understand things and can’t apply a sense of proportion, they cover their arses or just do it to their commercial advantage!

The price is not surprising. I assume from the post this was a front end issue. I can speak from experience: The front end of a Mach e is all plastic. There are proximity sensors and the AC condenser is close by and easily damaged. Any front end collision can potentially damage these expensive parts, and since everything is "proprietary" i.e. the only parts source is Ford at OEM prices. To my knowledge there are no secondary supplier parts available to keep prices in line so you are at the mercy of Ford service parts pricing. Also, like most modern cars, there really is no front end bumper. Everything is plastic and breaks easily. If the A/C needs work, this vehicle uses a new A/C refrigerant, R1234yf, which is expensive. I agree with the advice from other posts, get quotes from other suppliers and compare pricing.

Good luck!

my 21 premium rwd std was rear ended last month... initial estimate $15k for rear bumper, hatch and left rear quarter panel, plus sensors, etc.

but after rear driver side was removed (it was canted outward), they found more damage to rear suspension and subframe --> totaled.

but AAA came through with giving me about $4-5k more than I expected which led to picking up the 23 GT PE for only an extra $3k.
