Let's face it, I doubt anyone in these forums that's ready to plunk down $45k-$60k for a brand new state-of-the-art vehicle is exactly poor.

It's a vehicle with a price point suited primarily for upper-middle income buyers.

Very sad. My wife is selling her 30 year old business she started from nothing after we put ourselves through college over 40 years ago. We have always earned our own way. So, our income the next couple of years will be above $250k as we get ready for retirement. No EV Tax Credit for us, I guess. We are a couple of those undeserving and evil RICH types. Already paying over 40% of everything we earn to taxes. Our Fair Share! You know what my wife said yesterday after I told it had shipped out from the factory? Go ahead and get your Mach E anyway, tax credit or not! No wonder we have been married close to 50 years!!!
WHAT YOU ARE REFERRING TO IS A DISCUSSION OF A PROPOSAL FOR THE FUTURE.

The current program has NOT changed; there is no cap on income for the BEV credit for tax year 2021.

True. And, I have always been a risk taker. But I always have a Plan B and sometimes a Plan C. It has been my experience (Obama and Newsom for example) that the government entitity that spends the most tries real hard to get more of our hard earned money. If they are talking about it, I place the odds high that they will follow through with an expansion of the program, but low that the income cap will be retroactively applied to 2021. However, in my case, as I said in my post, my wife and I are prepared to continue with getting the Mach E, even if later this year that tax credit is reduced or taken away from us. I am still committed to EV, solar, backup batteries, renewable energy!

I wouldnt necessarily put myself in that category, more in the middle to low income. My ability to do a lot with little taught to me by my parents and because of my ability to take advantage of some of the perks of being self employed, plus government programs, i believe financially I can pull it off. Its the reason that the provincial incentive here of 8k$ was so important. Since the govt made an exception for all those who ordered a MME before january 14 2021, I will finally get the incentive. It would not make sense to cancel now. I don't think there will be any reason other than financial downfall which would make cance. Im getting a 8k$ rebate on an MME that I wont be able to get ever again.

If a vehicle with similar range and with enough features became available at dealers before Ford can deliver a Mach E, I would certainly give it a test drive. The biggest incentive to switch would be if it was comparable but also qualified for the $5000 federal rebate, unlike the Ford.
Then try the Kia Niro EV SX here in Canada, a bit smaller, more range , excellent review, only FWD, I had ordered one last summer but I've change to the Mach-E to have AWD, so even that I was loosing the $5,000 federal incentive . Around $56,000 including delivery and prep charge. I've owned a Kia Sportage for almost 7 years now and no major issues so far, no rust and almost 120,000 km. If you have a small family might be ok for size. You don't have to wait for them anymore they are available from the dealer's lot, at least here in Quebec. There's also the Kona Electric but to small in the back, but they also have good reviews and less expensive.

Damn sorry to hear that you made 250k in a year, must be tough.
Yes, it was a tough year. Despite my wife's business being down as some of her small business clients went out of business and some could not pay their bills, she kept her 30+ employees at full pay. Have you ever tried to make payroll every week even though your business is shrinking? She also set up an office for child care for those employees whose children had to stay home from school. And, more than half of her employees worked from home, with computers provided by her. So, yes, it was a tough year, and the first half of 2021 is not looking any better. Thanks for your concern.

To get back to the thread topic: We are still going to get the Mach E.

All I'm asking you to consider is that there are people out there who worked exactly as hard as you and your wife and have to decide between making rent and getting their 95 Corolla fixed. Happy to return to the thread topic that you derailed.

And none of them are on this forum discussing buying a 50 to 60 thousand dollar, and more, car.

It takes time and blood that you never get back. One year I worked from the end of September thru Xmas only to realize all that time went to Uncle Sugar. All to fund the free stuff parade.

Lot of assumptions about amount of work and other things. There are probably far more people who worked less hard that have more disposable income and make make over $250k/year instead of having $250k as a major part of their retirement savings after decades of work. Not sure your point of derailing the thread.

On the OP's topic, here's a list of reasons I'd cancel my order:
  • Federal credit disappears (next to impossible for 2021)
  • Screen feels too laggy during my test drive. I get that s/w updates can optimize, but I'm the type who makes a buy decision based on what I am seeing. Everything in the future is gravy.
  • Vehicle looks weird/odd in person. I will admit that I was on the fence when I first saw the car. But like a good date, it grows on you. Since this is subjective and just to add perspective, my favorite looking EV is Lucid (I know it's not on the market today) and Model S.
  • Ford releases pricing of add-ons for the MME GT (I want the glass roof and driver assist features added to the GT). If the difference between my Premium and GT were $6000 or less, I would cancel my Premium and reserve a GT.
  • Vehicle isn't fun to drive during the test drive.

Good point on screen, never assume it will get better. It's just as likely that OTA updates make it slower as they could add some features that end up taking away overall performance.

Based on the reviews so far, if it isn't fun to drive, then either you are not doing it right, or very few if any vehicles will ever fun for for you to drive... ;)

I do hope they detail of the GT options soon as that might be tempting if their was more specific details. (That said, I am not sure if that counts as canceling, as it would be changing trim, but still a Mach E).

That's is absolutely true, but it is also the critical point. BEV adoption is crucial to cut greenhouse gas emissions, which means a much larger segment of the population needs to be able to afford one.

I owned a software company that wrote software for small manufacturers, and absolutely poured my heart into it - as did my business partners. I missed a lot of my kids' early years because I was working. Unfortunately that didn't pay off as hoped, because my customer base evaporated in the united states. Instead of a payoff, we paid off all our creditors and walked away with almost nothing. OK, stuff happens and you move on.

Back to the point: in the big picture, it is much better FOR EVERYONE including our grandchildren to get as many BEVs on the road as soon as possible. If that means those in middle income brackets get an incentive and I don't, so be it. I make much less than @engnrng will make this year, but I can still afford the car without the tax break. So can he. It doesn't "feel" fair, but sometimes the bigger picture is more important. When NJ suddenly took away the BEV incentive I was pissed (mostly because of the WAY it was done), but after thinking about it I understood that circumstances required that money be funneled into more immediate needs. I didn't like it, but I understand.

It will be a long time before truly low income individuals can afford a BEV, but as with ICE cars they'll likely buy used - which requires more BEV's on the road for there to be sufficient quantities of used BEVs. With the upper 50%-60% being able to afford new ones, there will be plenty used available.

A few days ago I emailed my dealer telling him it’s been a week since the delayed delivery occurred and he said he’d reach out to me with some info, but I haven’t heard anything back. I told him I’m frustrated and second-guessing my order. If I was a dealer and I had a customer tell me this, I’d reach out ASAP. It’s been crickets from him. He doesn’t know I’m on this forum and know about the tracker info. My cancellation will purely be due to my frustration with Ford’s lack of communication, and my dealer’s inept ability to use common sense.
