Interesting observations.... I'm sure the different feel between drive modes (OPD, TPD) has to do with the operating software application, as everyone has eluded to. I've also become fond of OPD, it really forces you to have smooth inputs while driving, something I'm already used to, through several advanced drivers training schools. But now I'm wondering if there would be a difference in WOT, or 0-60 times, between drive modes... I'm guessing probably not, but who knows.... might have to experiment a little & find out.... ?

I will also argue it is safer.

For one having the car not creep forward with no input is how all vehicles should operate, 1P or 2P How many minor accidents or “run away” incidents happen because of this.

2nd is your reaction time to begin a emergency brake is just faster. The fact the the car begins to decelerate before you’ve even begun to touch the brake pedal is an advantage no matter how you look at it.

we have 2 cars, one being an older ICE automatic. I have no issues going back and forth before between the two, other than getting a constant reminder of how much superior the 1P drive really is.

I like the idea of 1PD, but discovered that I didn't like using it. Like you, I felt as though there was a constant drag on the car. It made driving my MME feel labored. That, along with the heavier steering and stiffer ride, made daily driving feel more like an unpleasant chore. I still wish the suspension was more compliant and the steering lighter, but the combo of all three was tiresome.
Not much can be done about the suspension unless you are willing to swap springs and shocks. The steering assist can be modified by changing drive mode from Unbridled to Engaged or Engaged to Whisper. This will increase the amount of assist the car has. If Ford would allow us more adjustability in drive modes, they might be able to satisfy the fringe people in the wild who feel that Unbridled is over-assisted or Whisper is under-assisted. Or maybe they should just give @markboris and me an Unbridled+ mode with stiffer shock settings and less assist on the steering. You know, because Mark is Mark and I’m… a dog with a car. ??

We’ve all been driving 2P cars all our lives. After a week of 1P I can honestly say it feels more natural, more precise and smoother.
Yup. I've had my mach-e for 4 years and, beyond a few extremely brief spurts, have never driven it in anything other than 1pd. I would not have it any other way.

I suppose, if you always kept it in first gear.
That doesn't make sense to me. At higher speeds first gear becomes impossible. Second, third or fourth gear can decelerate a car at a rate comparable to the Mach-E's 1PD, depending on speed.

The only time I turn one peddle off is when driving in a snow storm. It's dangerous to leave it on, but then again if I would slow down for the road conditions it probably wouldn't be an issue.

It's the remapping of the TPS (throttle position sensor). If you went from 2pd to engage ( edit: I meant unbridle) the speed would stay really close to the same as it's a more agressive application position. 2pd to whisper is like someone hitting the brakes.

I do feel like one pedal driving does encourage slower driving because the vehicle is constantly trying to decelerate. By contrast, my old Mustang GT has what I would call a strong idle where even without pressing the gas, the car wants to move quickly compared to the idling of other vehicles and I often find myself going faster than I intended.

I don’t drive in OPD with the Mach-E, but the effect is sort of similar in Engaged, where the vehicle gently wants to slow me down when cruising while not pressing any pedal.

I can usually stop as needed without ever using the mechanical brake pedal, which should save me kaboodles of money in brake maintenance. Being an ex-mechanical engineer, the ability to recapture otherwise wasted energy is almost nerdishly thrilling!
As an ex-mechanical engineer, I would hope you know that 2PD used the same blended mechanical brake/regenerative brake system as 1PD. You aren't going to save kaboodles (is that english or metric kaboodles?) using 1PD vs. 2PD.

After years of driving with one pedal, my teenagers who are now driving and sort of understand the process a little better have informed me that as a passenger the one pedal is aggravating since the car never coasts or glides much they as passengers feel thrown around a bit more than they do if I have the one pedal off. Since I'm driving I've never noticed because I'm in control and know exactly when I'm lifting my foot and can "brace" myself against the car's reaction.

Funny, I had the exact inverse experience. I thought I would hate it, but I gave it a try and now it's my preferred option and I almost never turn it off. Another interesting note: my wife doesn't like it (although she hasn't tried it for more than a few minutes) but she likes it when I use it because it feels like I'm driving what she would consider "less aggressively".

It took a year to figure it out, but I found that I prefer the regenerative braking and steering feel of "Low Gear" in Whisper mode. Now, if only my MME had the rally suspension...
