Note: I've read several threads about various solutions, but not the one I'm thinking about...

Had a 2021 Premium EXT AWD that had some pano glass roof noise (where the windshield and roof meet). Installed a strip of foam weatherstripping over the gap and it helped a lot, but I had some issues with it staying put.

Traded for my 2023 GTPE, which I love! Has some similar wind noise. Covered the gap with weatherstripping as a test and it made a noticeable difference, but not sure how long it will stay attached:

Now for the question:

Why not just caulk (fill) the entre gap with black silicone? Seems like it would be easy, invisible, and solve the problem.

Is there a reason anyone knows of why that is not a good idea?

Has anyone done it? If so, what were your results?

Thanks!

I did not go that route as it would be quite the mess for any future glass replacement. I would hate to have the windshield or glass replaced only to then find out it now leaks from not being cleaned properly. I did consider it though.

Thanks @Murse-In-Airy !'m concerned about that as well. Just can't find anything that would reliably cover the gap (ie, wide enough), stick to the glass well (3M tape!) and look acceptable. Recommendations welcomed!

Maybe @AOSK can design something for us?

I had wind noise on my 21 car at speeds of 45 mph or higher and there was a significant gap between the windshield and pano roof. When they did my recalls, the glass company while not required to do it, completely removed the pano roof and reset it to where it should have been from factory. My gap now is less than 1/8" and super quiet. You may want to consider a glass company repositioning your roof to where it probably should be

If your foam didn’t stay put, just get a slightly larger piece of foam and jam it in there.

Black silicone could work, but if it ends up looking bad or you make a mess, it’s also a mess to clean up/out.

Plus, a broken windshield is fairly common and it’d be a mess for when that gets replaced.

The gap isn’t really what makes the sound, it’s the misaligned windshield.

When I got a rock chip and they replaced my windshield, the installer showed me how uneven the factory one was. He made it even and the wind noise disappeared.

I previously used foam to fix the sound but didn’t need it anymore.
