This showed up on my owner dashboard. Guess getting stuck outside your car isn't urgent, has to wait for Q3

Issue Date
2025-06-13
Campaign
25S65/AWAITING
Description
On your vehicle, in the event of unexpected 12V battery discharge, the front door electronic latches retain their last lockunlock status. If the driver or front passenger exit the front doors using the mechanical inside release handles, the doors may remain locked when they are closed. This may result in an unexpected lock-out condition for the driver and front passenger without the ability to immediately re-enter the vehicle.
Safety Risk
An occupant who remains inside a locked vehicle and unable to use an inside door release handle may be unable to be rapidly retrieved by a passenger who has exited the vehicle. This could result in a serious injury, especially in hot weather.
Remedy
Ford Motor Company is working to provide software for this repair. However, software is currently not available. When the software remedy becomes available, Ford Motor Company will notify you via mail to schedule a service appointment with your dealer for repairs to be completed free of charge. The remedy is anticipated to be available in Q3 of 2025.

Me too. Hope the "especially in hot weather" comment doesn't come to pass.

This problem is another example of Fords incompetent software design/development. Fortunately for us, I hope, I had the 12v battery replaced a few months ago. No problems since replacement. I hope we are not headed for trouble and for Ford to say Software will not be available until Q3 is total BS. Software is not parts and should be included in an OTA update. Delay until Q3 makes me think there is more to the story.

Fwiw, if someone ever gets trapped in the car... just break the glass. Unless I'm misreading something, this seems more like a head's up for the "can't fight their way out of a paper bag" buyer. Having a glass breaking tool in the glove box should be mandatory. Cheap life saving security tool for the very rare instance you'd need one.

Tesla is notorious for this problem as well.

Good, that is the root cause of certain lockouts when there is a 12V battery failure that occurs immediately after switching off the vehicle (because the DC/DC shuts off) which caused a lockout situation after exiting and closing the door. When the door is opened mechanically, the door latch modules are not registering the state change from locked to unlocked properly, which causes the door to remain locked after having been opened and closed. This will cause you to be locked out after exiting until you are able to restore 12V power.

Per NHTSA, it is now a recall, awaiting a number.

If a person in the car is incapable of using the mechanical door handle (small child, for example), I doubt they can swing a hammer.

I can confirm Rigatoni’s report of a full stop sale. I was at the dealer filling out the paperwork when the sales manager came out to give me the bad news. After waiting five months, I was going home without my new Mach E. Got to sit in it though!

All situations where a small child or someone infirm enough they can't break glass with a tool (who would be very unlikely the operator of the vehicle), implies someone will be outside the vehicle to break the window regardless. Answer is always -- break the window if a life is even remotely in jeopardy. Hopefully we can all agree on that.
