True. I waited till the three years were up. With all the horror stories of the 12V locking people out, I did not want to wait till the battery failed.
Wouldn't you have to demonstrate symptoms that the 12v battery is defective or do you just go to the dealer when the car is 2 years and 11 months old an tell them you want a new battery?
In my case, I was in at 2 years and 11 months getting a last check done and addressing some module updates. I read about lots of people having their battery die around the 3 year mark, so I asked them to check my battery. They have a way to test it, and told me it was failing. I had no symptoms, but they told me it was covered by its own 3 year warranty.
I should have installed it myself but did not have time. Had a trip coming up.
I had my 2022 CR1 with 56,000 miles in for service this week to replace a faulty door sensor, so based on this posting I had my dealer check the 12V battery. It tested out at about 300 amps, so that was low enough to justify replacement. They charged me $138.
So warranty covered the door sensor but not the battery?
The battery replacement was $138. The door lock sensor problem occurred after the warranty expired, so the cost for that was $568. It was a harmless error that always cleared by the OK button but came up each time the car was started. We plan to get a new EV soon so I didn’t want the next owner of the Mach E to be saddled with a confusing error (or a failing 12V battery).
