I have been a Ford guy for a long time as well. I have 22 and am also trying to decide what to do as I approach the end of warranty. The thought of owning a Cadillac has always seemed weird but the Lyriq has some good reviews on YouTube. This is appealing since my wife hates the stiff ride on the MME.

The thought of owning a Cadillac with anything less than a 472 in it is weird. ??

The Lucid Gravity is amazing. Go test drive it. And 440 mile range. Only shocker is the price… you won’t walk away from it for less than $102,000, possibly more when you see the cool options they have.

LOL I was parked next to an Air at a car show. The only thing I could afford that the Lucid dealer had at the show was the COVID masks they were giving out. ??

My '21 options plan is/was up in Feb 2025. I stopped by my dealer to talk about it and he kept throwing $$ at me so I got a new car.

Foreground is new Escape PHEV background is my, now gone, Mach-E....

I do like how they "Mach-Eified" the Escape's looks.

I'd consider another MME in the future. If I did buy one again, I'd definitely splurge for a GT or Rally.

That said, there are few other EVs that have piqued my interest. Mostly ones that are still in the pipeline like the Rivian R3X and Scout Traveler. The only other EV currently available that I'm vaguely interested in and can afford is the Ioniq 5N.

Nothing against Ford, but I'm fairly brand agnostic and would happily jump ship if I find another exciting vehicle that fits my lifestyle once my MME feels old.

my ford options loan is coming due in december 2025. the residual value assigned to the car is way too high to buy the car out.

i'm starting to think about a next car. we really like the MME but i feel that out of warranty it's going to become a money pit based on the number of issues we've had so far. while this car is the devil i know, it's not likely i can hang onto it and will need to buy/lease another EV next year. if it's going to be another MME i feel like we're taking a chance on the same kinds of issues.

anyone switched or thinking about switching to any of the e-tron SUVs? wondering if it's out of the frying pan and into the fire on that one.
I would recommend the Gen 2 R1S if you are willing to spend that much on an Audi. Rivian really has improved every aspect of the car with Gen 2.

yeah, this is anecdotal but my wife's coworker has a lyric and although she loves having an EV, she's tried to lemon law it since it's outright died multiple times and the dealer has not been able to repair it. at least her lyric makes the MME look like a toyota in terms of reliability.

i also don't like GM's decision to get rid of CarPlay and android auto and i don't think i want to support that.

i hadn't considered this car as i just sort of assumed lucid was going to be another fisker in the long run. but i will check it out. i certainly paid way too much for the GTPE and so a fool and his money may soon be parted again on something way too pricey.

i actually am interested in rivian but it has the same CarPlay problem... plus my wife hates how they look. so that might be a non starter. really the reason i asked for opinions on the audi is that she has pre-decided that she's OK with the look of the various audi electric SUVs, and it's a question of what size to buy.

this has been a good discussion - thanks to everyone for the ideas and opinions.

The only competitor that I currently like more is the Macan EV.

But looking at current sale prices for a loaded 2024 Mach E GT at $52k and a Macan turbo at $130k….. and the Macan turbo is only slightly faster…….
I just can’t justify it.
thanks for the reminder. i need to look at the macon again. it's true that the price is not justified.

it's good that the GT is so much cheaper now, that's a point in its favor.

by the by, i think one rebuttal to my question is "who cares", because i've leased the last 3 EVs i've owned (sort of, of course, with options) and so just getting into another 3-year lease on a new EV is not a huge commitment. the car should be under warranty the whole time and aside from inconvenience any problems should be taken care of gratis. of course with problems like the HVBJB, it can be more than just an inconvenience, which is why i'm wondering about other manufacturers.

the decision to lease/options was mostly driven by uncertainty - are these cars going to be reliable? is the battery going to last? is battery technology going to improve? etc. with the exception of the Leaf (which i had to buy, and then sell at a huge loss after 5 years because the battery was shot) i think the answers are yes, yes, and yes (but maybe not that much). maybe all along there hasn't been a real reason to be ditching an EV every 3 years. but unlike the leaf, the bolt and the tesla, i've had a lot of problems with the MME.

so in the end, the endless lease thing is pretty wasteful and of course economically silly - for instance i've owned my plug in prius for 12 years now and still have loads of value to extract from it. i'm kind of thinking that the next EV we get might just be purchased and held on to. hence the decision carries a little more weight than the last 3, and the issues i have had with the MME give me pause about getting married to one.

Agree, but the extended warranty has a lot of exclusions and have to pay for the diagnosis plus deductibles.

It's been a pain in my past experiences with extended warranties....

In my old age, I don't need the aggravation.

I'll stick with a new EV since these Ford Mach E (and Lightnings) are first model year design and we are the beta testers....
Depends, if you buy a Ford extended it's handled just like the factory warranty. You can choose to have a deductible or choose not to

One other difference is you can buy same day rental coverage and that's in force even if the car is still within its factory warranty period.

How do you determine that? Residual value is above market for our used cars, but way less than a comparable new car. How do you decide how high is too high for the balloon payment amount?

I will have to make my own decision in October 2025, when my Ford Options period ends. Prices will change by then, but I am confused as to how best to evaluate the payment amount.

i'm making this assumption on the basis of 2 things - the price for a similarly configured 2024 GTPE is now 20-25k less than what i paid for the car. more concretely, carvana and similar online price quoters give a value that's >10k less than the residual. so i think it's safe to say it doesn't make sense for me to buy this car out.
